NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Hyundai Concept Genesis shots

It's got exterior elements from all the major luxury makers. It looks good though. The newest Sonata and Azera aren't bad looking cars, so this new Hyundai flagship should do quote well. DCX, GM, and Toyota should be on high alert for this V8 RWD entry.

I don't think it's going to be that 'deep'. I believe Hyundai is doing fairly well with Sonata & Azera sales. But no, I don't think the final production version will look exaclty like the concept sketch, but it will look good in comparison to the Buick, Toyota, Ford, and Chrysler large car offerings. I think Hyundai will sell to people looking for a large RWD V8 sedan that doesn't get a lot of attention, but is comfortable to drive and cheap to own, and has a good warranty. I think this model will surprise the industry.

I agree with dumpsty on all points except... i do believe that hyundai, with time, will postion themselves as a true premium nameplate. I know, i know... the excel and pony. but that was THEN... times have changed... standards have changed. all things change... look at ford and chevy. junk! even now the preseption of Hyundai is better... ask a hyundai owner, there is no shame in owning a Sonata, Azera, or Santa Fe. Ppl like bulldogz and their calvin pee'n on a ford symbol sticker in the back window will come along soon enuff. heck, i'd say they know it already and thats why the sour grapes attitude! 15 yrs... Hyundai top 3 quality top 3 luxury top 3 sales. watch.

Anyone think this looks like a Toyota Camry/ Lexus

Is this the S-class, 7 Series and A8 killer? lol ..........................ha...ha...ha...ha...Come on...let get real here. I would anyone pay top dollars for this when you can get a Lexus, BMW, MB and the Audi. Toyota has around for very long time and very successful before they make the Lexus division. I think Hyundai is getting really greedy, trying to compete and doing to many at the same time. Hyundai work on the quality of your mass production vechicles first.

Funny...isn't that what the German fans said about Lexus in 1989? If anyone should be aware of how quickly the market can shift with proper engineering, value pricing, giving what the customer wants, it should be a Lexus fanboy. Good thing Toyota probably isn't as naive about it as you are.

its pretty nice in the picture, but im sure once it comes out, its going to look like a whole different car that no one is going to buy. so then they would have to give it a 20 year and 200,000 mile warranty so people go and buy it, lol.

I know man, I just think they should focus on their realiability and quality of their car first. Once they have created a car good enough and than join the premium wagon. I just think it to early for them. I mean look at VW, who has much better rep than them. But look what happen when VW Phaeton came out, "NO One want it". The sales for the VW Phaeto was a huge flop, and an embrassment to the company.

Even if they do offer 20 years and 200,000 miles warranty I stll "Would Not want it". Why get this when you can get the Lexus LS, 7 Series, S-class and the Audi A8.

With all your posts about this topic (10 posts so far?) sounds like someone is a little insecure about Lexus position in the market place.

Oh and, this concept is like a Phaeton, except not as well-built or powerful.

Yeah! you know how the Korean automaker are, they are probably one of the worst company out there. They would copy almost exactly what the car look like from other autocompany.

First it was VW, than Chrylser and now the Hyundai trying to go premium. Hey! if the brand started out as a premium than fine. But start out as a mass production and trying to go premium. And you do decide to do so, make a seperate luxury division.

But first thing first, Hyundai has not been around that long. Secondly, they need to work the quality and reliability first.

VW is a much better brand than Hyundai and look what happen to them with the Phaeton.

Quite simply, it looks like a Lexus GS and Toyota Avalon put together.

If it looks like the pics..damned impressive. All the critics can get mad as hell at Hyundai all they want, but it isn't going to change the facts - the Genesis
will be a great seller even if it isn't world class in handling, fit and finish, etc.
Why would anyone want this car over a BMW, MBenz, Lexus, etc? $$$$$$$s and lots of them, that's why.
This car will sell $15K less than the comparable luxo-boat. And that's the point; it doesn't have to be as good as the luxo brands, all it has to do is undercut them in price by a whopping amount..and that's exactly what it's going to do.

Luxury car buyers put price pretty low on their list of priorities.

Hyundai's having hard enough time competing against Honda and Toyota, what makes them think they can compete against the luxury brands?

FYI, over 50% of Sonatas go straight to rental fleets, yet total sales are only 1/4 of Accord and Camry.

But I still think it look better than some of the German brand, styling wise of course.

In fact; didn't BMW current 3 Series got their taillight design from Hyundai?

I betcha, if anything this concept once it come out of production, it will be a Cadillac killer. I betcha the big 3 or whatever left of them are scare and nervous now. They already having such a hard time staying alive with Japanese brand and now this.

As a prev. Sonata owner, I was at first very happy that I got a nice car for a very good price, PLUS the amazing Warranty. I drove for about couple of months, still happy, excited about the new car. Then after 4 or 5 months the HYUNDAI's real truth about their cars came out, the parts inside the car started breaking like my signal light, the part that holds the window in place in an upright position (3 visits to their shop). The Airbag light came on at least 6 times during my 2 years of ownership (6 Visits, 2 times had to be held for 3 days each). And the car I bought was in 2001. so it was not the old Hyundai, it was a recent model. All am saying is its a great car for people who love sitting in Hyundai's Parts and Service Waiting room. If your life doesn't require you to go to places and work and all those other stuff that you might need dependability, then hyundai would be a wonerful choice b/c it would make you a lot of friends at the dealership for life, like the mechanics, the phone girl who would make appointments for you, etc. OOOOH and yeah after 6 months on a brand new car, the tires needed to be replaced, this made me sooooo angry that I called the VP for US, he was so nasty and rude that he hung up on me by saying that any tire needed to be changed after 3000 miles. And the Brand of tire they use was sooo unknown that there was no american distribution for it. I like to think of the warranty as a big trap to make people like me buy their jonk. B/c after the 50 thousand, its not worth anything. The timing belt needs to be changed which is a huge cost, and its after 50,000 as I remember. Anyways I WAS SOOOO happy to sell the car with 18 thousand loss that I went and bought my self a German car which I have been a fan now for life. Haven't been to a mechanic shop for 4 years. Just oil changes. WATCH AND SEE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WILL LOSE ONCE YOU DRIVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT!!! I know all cars lose money (depreciate) but HYUNDAI is on top of the list next to their twin friend KIA! I don't need any feedback or angry hate letters, this is just to advice you not to make the mistake I made just b/c they offer a 100,000 miles warranty. I had a nice Honda Civic that day that I was buying but since the hyundai dealer was next door I was passing by the sonata and I saw a bigger car with more options for the same money so I got blind by the sticker and I was hating myself for that for the 2 years that I drove the car. i liked the designe but very basic and noisy car. and ofcourse allllll the problems I told you about. by the way Genesis front picture looks very very similar to the New Camery Hybrid.. at first I thought its a camery then the back looks different so I looked to see the brand and it said the "H". I really think Nissan is going to be the next best thing between Toyota and Honda.
