Lexus LX 570 Coming to New York

"In a brief press release,Toyota confirmed that its Lexus brand would be unveiling a new LX570 sport-utility vehicle at the 2007 New York auto show.

The new model replaces the outgoing LX470, which shares its running gear with the Toyota Land Cruiser. The new LX is expected to share the new 5.7-liter V-8 engine Toyota installs in the Tundra pickup.

Spy shots of the Toyota Land Cruiser [Click Link] show a smoother body style, which the Lexus edition will likely adopt as well.

Other details are slim. Toyota says the third-generation LX ute will "reach new heights in performance via a powerful new V-8 engine while achieving elevated levels of comfort, style and safety."

Toyota's press conference takes place on April 4 at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan."

The current line of Land Rover products blows away the stuff they were making a decade ago. However, what they were making a decade ago was famously unreliable crap. Engines based upon an old Buick design didn't help matters.

Even a modern day Range Rover might get you a prime valet spot, but it might not get you home.

That's not to say they aren't good vehicles from a design standpoint, but to say their unreliable ways are in the past is quite foolish.

No matter what Lexus says, this car won't be a performance leader.

No matter how much power it has, this car won't be a performance leader.

Can you at least admit the GL is quite impressive?

I don't think the C is the best- I think the IS is better. I don't think the R is good at all. The SLK is my least-favorite roadster. The GLK will probably be pretty boring.

I thought the GL was just a big ML when it came out, and found it boring. Then, I read the reviews. I haven't driven it, but the car is said to have amazing handling for its size, without sacrificing customary Mercedes comfort or luxury. It also has a usable third-row. AND it's less money than an Escalade. It's my kind of full-size SUV.

You're right. I freely admit that I haven't driven the new GL450, unlike some who claim to have driven very expensive vehicles but really have not.

I made the "revelation" after I read review, after review, after review, just gushing over the GL's qualities. When it came out, I thought the LX470 was better, and I tried not to like the GL. However, it's just too good. It will take awhile before anyone else catches up... and that doesn't just mean Lexus.

I repeat- I wasn't talking about luxury. There's definitely a chance the LX will have a more luxurious interior than the Mercedes. I was referring to the performance of these vehicles. That's what sets the GL apart from the pack. Like the S-Class, the GL represents a truck that not only has a beautifully-made interior, but (so I've read), great handling to go along.

Can you admit that the LX570 probably won't surpass it in that respect?

So you stick by your claims still, after reading a few reviews? Have you even bothered to read any reviews of the LC or LX? The LC is dead in the US and Toyota is not likely to maintain both the LX and the LC. If the LX570 is based on the new Tundra platform, provides 380-400 hp with 6sp trans (it will at least have the 381hp in the Tundra), has fold flat 3rd & 2nd row seats, L-Finesse ext/int and can tow 10,000lbs...it'll have monster sales and its price and mpg will be irrelevant. It will challenge the Escalade for primo Lux hauler.

Towing capacity outside the US is a non-issue as ROW has nothing to tow. High end US owners of performance boats, race car trailers, lux campers, fishing boats and horse trailers are looking for an alternative lux tow vehicle to the GM's. I know...I currently own a GMC Denali for towing and if the new LX570 launched next week has the features above...I'll have one within a month of it's dealership debut.

ROW shows their ugly anti-American faces whenever they disparage large luxury SUVs. In reality, they're just showing their true oolors of jealousy that they can't afford large Lux SUVs, the gas that they use or the toys that they tow. Only difference now is that they camo their jealousy by masking it with their global warming concerns. Like the exhaust from a 10 mpg ferrari or MB 600 is somehow better for the climate.

Everyone should just face the facts...Americans buying lux suvs for toy towing is an "outrage" to the ROW only because they can't afford them or the toys they tow.

No, of course it's not rubbish. Whether you like it or not, it is a legitiment competitor of the Range Rover. So if you say the LX is crap, what does that make the Rover?

Yes, the LX is a Lancruiser that is taken to a higher level of refinement and feature content. The exterior diffrences don't hide the fact that the LX is a Landcruiser.

Taking a well-respected and capable vehicle and adding nice things to it really isn't a bad thing. Not sure why you think it is. I don't think LX owners are denying the Landcruiser connection nor would they be embarrassed by it.

The only true negative thing about the LX/Landcruiser connection is that it gives the ignorant somtething to discuss in their desperate atempts to knock Lexus.

But Lexus claims this vehicle will take performance "to new heights." At least in the full-size segment, I don't see that as a likely possibility as long as the GL450 is on the market. There could also be a GL550 in the cards (it's not necessary because the normal GL is so swift), so the LX's power advantage would be diminished.

HANDLING, HANDLING, HANDLING.

The LX could be faster. Although, (I'M NOT FLAMING HERE) I would be surprised. The GL gets 0-60 times in under seven seconds in every test I've read. Like I said, it's quite swift.

But, what SETS IT APART is the way the car drives, according to the REVIEWS. It is, supposedly, more nimble than any other three-row luxury truck out there, and while doing that in superb comfort and style, it's a winning combination.

It's also $14K less than the LX470, and, get this, one thing you Lex fans car so dearly about-- the GL will perform better at the pump.

OFF-ROADING, OFF-ROADING, OFF-ROADING!!!

The GL obviously has the characteristics of a sedan from the reading of your reivews, but there's no doubt in anyone's mind but yours that the LC and LX will be better off-roaders, which might I remind you are the ideas behind these SUVS!!!

man, cant wait to see this, but i hope they dont put the tundra front headlights on it, because those lights would look ugly on a suv, but its real cool to have the 5.7L V8 in there. and man you guys need to stop arguing, dang.

Caddyman, we all know that the Ford, Cheavy and Cadillac is the same thing. The Cadillac is just a rebadge itself, don't fool yourself.

The Escalade was "JUST" a rebadge when it was first introduced. Sorry. It sucks to be you. The Tahoe and Escalade (even though the same basic SUV) are FAR MORE DIFFERENT than the Land Cruiser and LX470. You can go there with everyone else on this site but not with me. Nice try idiot. NEXT...

No they are not Caddyman. We can assume your bias by your username though.

The land cruiser is one of the best out there! the only company that comes close is land rover, but they lack the reliability of the toyota,.

This is one area where toyota has the upper hand and the experience plus the heritage most posters always whine about! it is globally renowned and respected as a robust luxurious machine that is unpretentious and does it job well, its not a poser car!

so in an essence, even if the lexus shared everything with the LC I would not mind, because the LC in its own right is a legend! unlike the Europeans the toyota has been in the game for some time. How ironic that its the Germans that lack heritage.

The GL and Q7 are both criticised for being monsters, but the Q7 hides it's bulk better.

ML 63 AMG will piss on any Lexus SUV and looks very sporty and unique, better than any Lexus SUV in my opinion. Not to mention the sick looking Brabus.

MLs are nice, but Brabus stuff sucks.

ML is one of the most unreliable vehicle of all time. Let the lions have you for supper.

Until the Range Rover's mechanical problems are solved, its a gamble at best. The ML63 AMG is just a box with a lot of heart. Why spend all those bucks for a fast box. The X5 is nice but lacks in size. I know the new model has seating for 7 but it looks cramped.

The Land Cruiser/LX 570 definitely needed an overhaul. More power and size places it on par with its competitors. Depending on its new design, it may get a point up on the competitors. We already know that it will be reliable, off-road capable, roomy, powerful and get better gas mileage than its competitors.

Hopefully, its looks better than it does now.
