New engine design could improve fuel efficiency, at a fraction of the cost of hybrid technology

By combining turbochargers and direct fuel injection and augmenting them with a novel way to use a small amount of ethanol, Cohn and his colleagues have created a design that they believe could triple the power of a test engine, an advance that could allow automakers to convert small engines designed for economy cars into muscular engines with more than enough power for SUVs or sports cars.

Ethanols is hype. Bio diesel is 4 times better. In the amount of energy gained.

Direct injection+turbo was pioneered by Audi with its Le Mans racing R8. Now available on most Audis.

Old news VW did this last year (or two years?). What about the gas motor that ran on high compression with high torque and improved mpg.Does anyone remember the name? HH something?That impresses me more!
