BMW X6 is go
BMW has confirmed that its new crossover will be called the X6 and that it will be built alongside the X5 (pictured) and Z4 at its North American factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina, becoming the third vehicle built at the plant, according to an Automotive News report.

The X6 is being described as a vehicle with the characteristics of an SUV and a coupe, including a coupe-like roof and body-shape, although it's unlikely to bear the other distinguishing feature of coupes - the absence of a second set of doors. This coupe-crossover is a strange concept that evokes slightly unsettling visions of a 6 Series with an SUV suspension and suicide doors, but in this crossover-happy age, we suppose a coupe-crossover was inevitable.

Now just hold your horses, this X6 has yet to be unveiled and it will be fast with enough space to haul things, like my Open House signs!!!

Surely it will look better than this when all the bandages come off. Right now, it looks like a Chevy HHR; the camouflage is doing its job.

It will be competing against the X5.

BMW makes perfect sense, almost as much as Merc's line-up.
Why cannabilise your own sales?

I think it will compete with the range rover sport... but BMW claims they invented a new class.

Yeah - I don't know why they come up with the ideas for these vehicles. The X5 seemed sufficient to me.

BMW needs to make an M X5 before they start making other SUV's, better yet I rather see an M7 over an X6 or an M X5. Is the X6 suppoused to be like an R-class or GL maybe...anyone?

Why?

I think Porsche and Mercedes should stick by themselves in that class.

X5 M, Q7 S... they'd be ridiculous. I just don't think we need another gas-guzzler.

Nobody "needs" an X5 M. The beautiful X5 4.8i is good enough, thanks.

They could use a proper three-row SUV, though. X5's third row has less legroom than the backseat of my convertible... and i'm not exaggerating. The S4 is pretty roomy.

just tell me what it's suppoused to compete with?

I am thinking this is supposed to compete against a GL. Why? BMW should stick with improving the 5 or 7 series sedans. As soon as Lexus refreshes their SUV lineup over the next 12 months, all players in that class of vehicle will take a hit sales wise, at least in North America where the majority of buyers are for this.

I can assume it will be an RR sport competitor, both have a normal SUV version of them. I cant wait, its gonna be a hit since I saw an X5 the other day and I was totally amazed by how sporty it is. The rear looks soo sleek and amazing, and the front looks aggressive and sporty... awesome car. WAYYYYYY BETTER than pictures.
