New Toyota Tundra fails to get 5-star crash rating?

What tech are we talking about here? The only thing that has change in chevy is their new body style. Take a really good look at the TUNDRA. Not only the frame has change to a big style, but the engine it self has jump to a much powerful engine. If i'm not wrong, isn't the tundra is way more powerful than the so call chevy. So please double check the tech part.

Now that is so coool ! For me at least, cause I don't like Toyota (Because of their stupid fans) and I hate Tundra (because it's ugly and big and useless, unless you wanna kill yourself in a front accident).

You got that right. If you're thinking of running into a wall than i quess you should look for a ford, dodge, or chevy. Everyone knows that the new tundra is best in it's class as of right now, but no one wants to admit it, becuase they're true to what they drive.

As fat as the front-end looks, I'm surprised. I bet the Chevy, Ford and Dodge marketing departments are making new pickup truck commercials dogging the Tundra for this as we speak.

Yes, every other truck did get 5 Stars, as said above. (Includes F150, Ram, Silverado, Sierra, Titan) And since like every car gets 5-stars on this easy test, it is shameful.

The F-150 gets 5 stars (and has for years), the Dodge gets 5 stars, the Chevy gets 5 stars.

The Tundra doesn't get 5 stars.

lexusis350, I'm trying to steady myself these days. Some of the posters make me tear my hair out, leading to the bashing of Toyota and promotion of German brands... but I really don't feel that way. Toyota is a great company and they have billions of dollars to show for their hard work. Why do you think I bought my wife a Lexus? I don't think it's a bad car.

That's true though, you did buy your wife a Lexus, but I thought she didn't like it and she wanted a Q7 or X5 or something like that.

She had an RX300 before, and doesn't dislike the 330. She's just tired of them, having had what is basically the same car for nine years. It will be ten years by the time I get her a new car early next year. She doesn't want a Lexus any more, so I'll probably end up buying her a nicely-equipped A8, but possibly a high-end E or 5 Series. I don't get what turned her off of Lexus (too common?), but she just refuses to look at one.

Toyota blew it on this one. For a brand new design, this is a terrible result.

Don't make it looks like the end of the world just because Tundra got 4 out of 5 stars from the outdated NHTSA front crash.

Many new German models like VW Passat, BMW 3, Audi A4, etc., all got 4 stars at NHTSA front crash test.

Let's see how Tundra will perform at the more important IIHS front off-set crash test. If it fails, then it is a crap design from Toyota.

Good point. And, the Tundra is a full-sized truck. The only place that the four stars would apply here is if it hit another truck or something bigger than it. If it hit a car, well, it would basically run over it and maybe scuff the fender.

As I said above,

The Chevy Chevrolet Colorado got 4 Stars and the Silverado got 4 for driver, 3 for passanger, even the Nissan Frontier got 4 stars, and 3 for the extended cab.

Its not like Toyota did horribly on this, seeing how even American Trucks have done below 4. But like above, we will see at the IIHS.

And so what if Hyundai can get 5 stars, is it in the same class.

I'm not too surprised that the Tundra didn't hold up well in the crash test. It just doesn't seem to be as solidly built as the domestic rigs.

This truck is a limited success- agressive looks, power and engineering with a cheap interior(again)and apparently bad crash protection. Toyota is making mistakes- the GS, the Yaris and this. It worries me.

How was the GS a mistake?

How is the Yaris a mistake, it did what it was suppose to, be a cheap car, that got from A to B, it maybe not fun to drive, but its a Yaris, its like expecting a hyundai to perform like a bmw, will never happen.

Do you work at lexus?

The GS, while beautiful, had a rough start. It was underpowered and cramped with a small trunk. The handling is disappointing as well. The cabinet which drops down to reveal the mirror controls etc. bangs your knee and hurts like hell. The M35/45 hit the mark that the GS was aiming for. For an all new Lexus which is only redone every 7-8 years, it is not what it should be. The Yaris is getting bad reviews from Consumer reports and the like when compared to the Fit and the Versa as being the worst of the three for refinement, handling and safety. The designers need to do better with their new products. The I think the IS is a winner, and the LS and ES, but the GS- not good enough for a new Lexus intro. It is still better than nearly everything else, but should have ruled the segment.

If I owned that Lexus dealership you say you work at, I'd fire your @$$. You're no Lexus fan, just a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Mitch, your honesty has earned you a few points in my book. Its about time a Toyo/Lexus fan exudes a sense of rationality. I am big fan of the GS, I would of bought it but the 300 wasn't worth the price. I will check out the 350 when my lease is up.

Do you know why I'm a Lexus fan? Because I like every single model Lexus builds. I don't blindly follow Lexus because of the L badge, I like each Lexus, I don't hate a single one of them. I like the looks of each one. I honestly think that every car they produce is the best in it's class. Maybe some other people don't, but gee, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. A true Lexus fan loves every one of their cars and doesn't criticize against it.

I love toyota but not this Truck! How disapointing this truck has been! First off one couldn't take this heap off road unless you crashed! It is too low and too long. Does it have a sticker package? Maybe an organ donor sticker! Fire someone toyota and get some new blood in there that is a truckman! or truckwoman! Someone that understands off road trucks and doesn't merely want to copy the lousy American trucks! The 2007 chev is the best of the group but is still mediocre and in great need of off road capabilities.

The dealers are offering $2000 incentives on this truck.

What's so bad about the Tundra?

It's a truck. It's not supposed to be beautiful. I haven't seen it on the road, so I can't comment, but it didn't look any worse than the other trucks when I saw it at the auto show.

IMO the interior really looks quite nice. Again, I haven't sat in it, but this is from observations in magazines. Looks better than F-150 and Ram, for sure, and is probably on par with the high-end Silverado.

I test drove it at the T.O auto show on an offroad course, really wasnt that intense, but the Tundra held its own, nice interior indeed. But I am no pro at trucks, so I don't know how others will think of it, but going through high banked curves, and varying leveled surfaces it handled well.

hands down, the tundra is way better than ford and dodge. The only one really compares to it, is the chevy. So whats really going to happen to these so call big boys in the long run.

Vinnyp I wish I could have taken this Tundra on the so called off road course. My question is could the corola have followed you on this off road course? I bet it could have. I drove on a Chevy off road course once in my slightly modified 1993 4-runner and it was so easy I drove it in two wheel drive! Although the course used up most of my 15inches of rear wheel travel.S4Cab trucks should have off road capabilities! That is hard to do when they are so close to the ground and have little suspension travel. To be fair they all suck but this is the longest and lowest and that is why it would be the worst off road.
