Best coupe in the world?

What do you think is the best coupe in the world? Doesn't matter what size or priceclass.

Anything is allowed.

And please don't ruin this topic and debate in a decent way.

So no Lexus/Merc/BMW/..etc bashing!

That means no deboosting. Just respect everybody's opinion, even if it's a very silly one.

the reason why I put up this topic is because I'm starting to look for a replacement for my beloved A8. And since I really don't need backseats anymore a coupe is an option.

Thank you

The best coupe right now is probably the M6. The A5 looks good as well and maybe if want a M3 you can wait for that.

Also, if want the coupe that looks the best: Maserati Granturismo.

Of course, if you are having a midlife crisis there's nothing better than a Corvette. Just kidding.

Oh btw, the SC or Solara shouldn't not be considered sevorbeupstry, seriously.

Well whats your price range?
I know you have the A8 but do you want to spend more or less?

If you want to spend less go for a S5 when it comes out, or an M3 but that might not be for a while. If you want to spend more why not a 911 4S, especially if you need the AWD like the A8. The Cl is a good choice along with the M6. Personally I like the sportiness of the M6 over the more luxury oriented CL.

If your willing to spend alittle more then the M6 or CL, go for the Aston Martin V-8 Vantage,911 turbo or Audi R8(if you can get your hands on a R8, that would be my choice)

I know you wouldnt get the SC, but just in case...NO,NO,NO,NO!!!! Ugly as hell, never drove one so not gonna say anything about that, but its hiddeous

Value: 335i

This is a tantilizing class. I'll be looking at a two-door, myself, but I'm more into convertibles. 6 Series, 911, XK, CLK and M3 are all on my list. and to the original threader, if we're NOT talking convertibles then the A5 and 335i Coupe look good in the lower luxury segment, BMW 650i Coupe (not a fan of the look of the convertible, love the coupe) and Jaguar XK in the mid-upper luxury segment, and CL550 at the top end. If we're including convertibles the new 335i Convertible, XK, or SL get my vote. My dream car would be the Aston Martin in either coupe or convertible but it sounds like you're looking for something more comfortable than that. I've never driven one, though, so I don't know how they ride.

LexusManiac,

Haha you're really making a name for yourself on this website. A house-hold moron at that. Give me a break, an SC430 as the best coupe in the world?

Better than the SL or the XK I think not. You obviously haven't driven it. Who's paying you to say these dumb comments. Even the Lexus fans aren't supporting you on this one. I was too quick to think that Lexus fans wont be in on this thread supporting the brand but you the Maniac that you are had to say something so stupid.

Lexus has no coupe that's competitive in any market i'm sorry but that's a fact. The SC is poorly styled as well as low on performance against its supposed 'competition'. THe interior i like i'll give it that but that's it.

If it was the greatest coupe in the world then why didn't Jeremy Clarkson already get his hands on one of these. From what I know he didn't even review the GS430 and I love that car. He reviewed the LS because of it's extended cabin along with the Maybach-like seats to compare against an Ultra Luxury brand because of what it offers at a much much lower cost. IT doesn't mean it's as good, it's just a comparison. In this case the SC is not better than an SL, 6 series, and etc. Since you support it, are you a female? because i've noticed many SC drivers are female.

-----
Lexus,

I think the Aston's a hot car as well. I don't know about it being the best but it sure is up there on my list. I'm glad you didn't say the SC was the best coupe in the world. I respect you for not joining LexusManiac.

You obviously know nothing about the history of the SL. The 300 Gullwing was a pinnacle design in automotive history. In my opinion it's THE first true supercar in it's time.

It can not be better than the SL in today's time either. I don't know how you can pull these comments out of your ass but you're getting support my friend.

If it's such a great sports car then I don't see many around and I don't see great news about them. The only people I see who may not complain are the female drivers who own them. They are not the best coupes in the world and it's obvious you can't accept a loss. Owners of SL's are posers? you have got to be kidding me.

If I was to call someone a poser I would call Lexus owners posers because it's more value for money in the luxury market. BUT I won't even go that far to say a dumb comment because I actually do respect some of the work that Lexus has put out. Unlike me, you don't respect the other brands. You continue to be the house-hold moron so please stop making yourself look worse.

Haven't you read people's comments about your comments? deboosted how many times? give me a break. You might as well leave this website.

Fair enough fair enough. At least you're not like LexusManiac who claims the SC430 is the best coupe in the world. It's slow, sluggish, and not exactly the best designed car.

Whether you agree with me or not that's fine. The car is not worth the money. However, if there is a 3rd generation SC it may have a chance since it's coming from behind it may have an advantage since they know what they'll have to do to make a good sports gt coupe.

If Lexus do make a third gen Lexus SC, I hope it will be more power, and bigger. Hopefully it around the same size as the BMW 6 Series. I hope they will spend more time with that car on performance and handling. After all it a suppose to be a sportcar.

One more thing, Lexus please make the next Lexus SC gen more muscular and aggressive so that it more of a man car. The current Lexus SC is underpower compare to it competitor and I think it look really soft compare to the BMW 6 Series and MB CLS.

I wouldn't say make it a man's car but for sure make it more aggressive and sportier looking. It will appeal to the younger crowd for sure. A new design and new engine should be offered to this model since it's way behind in terms of performance, handling, and styling. It needs to have a wider stance to have the look of a sports car as well.

Like I said before in my response to LexusManiac, the interior I don't mind, it's just the exterior that bugs me.

=)

Lexusmaniac, all the other Lexus fans know and accept that the SC is a total piece of crap next to its competition.

1. It's slow. The Mercedes has an 80hp advantage... and it's not even the most powerful for the money. You can get an XKR (420hp) for less money than an SL550.

2. It looks like a bathtub, or at least a used bar of soap. LEAST-sexy car in this class, by far. It's almost the opposite of sexy-- but the fact that it has a hardtop redeems it.

3. The interior isn't all that beautiful. It seems like a carbon copy of the last-gen XK's interior, but with a flip-out navigation screen. The rear seats are useless, and the 6 Series's interior is better IMO.

4. It's not hugely reliable, either. Don't be surprised if the XLR or XK get better reliability ratings. XJ was only second to the LS430 in reliability, so Jaguar is really moving up.

5. You're an idiot. Do you like any other car but Lexus? Can you even afford a used Lexus?

It has been said on here before, it really does depend upon how you approach the decision and what you want. For me, personally, whilst I don't want a slow car, I could care less if someone has a faster car than I. My list:

1. Aston Martin DB9. Why? The V12 Vanquish has a beautiful exterior, but a shockingly disappointing interior. You will find the buttons [rectangular ones] on a Vanquish that you will find inside of a 12 year old Jaguar XJ. It s true. Its replacement, DBS, I have the opposite phenomenon: the interior is immaculate, but the exterior body-kit destroys some of the proportion that I like.

2. XKR. I admit the following: I have not been able to get my hands on the coupe version of this car: they are all sold out here, so everything I have experience has been the convertible. From pictures I do believe that the coupe is sexier than the convertible.

3. Bentley Brooklands. It is just so pretty in a classically Bentley way. I can't bring myself to identify the Continental with Bentley.

3. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, which I think is the most refined [looking] of all Ferraris.

4. Maserati Coupe [new one] It was going to be number 3, but I realized I really don't like the interior.

You know, were money no object, then the Brooklands would be my number one. I honestly am not impressed easily: something which my friends have told me, but when I saw the pictures of the Brooklands, it took my breath away. It is so classic and yet there are traces of the modern in the roofline. The interior of course is immaculate.

cdokecdoke - 3/19/2007 5:22:52 PM

Unlike those two though, the Brooklands is classically Bentley. The interior is basically the same as the one they have had for years in the Arnage in the front: minus the Continental seats. The only thing about it that distinguishes it from its previous bretheren is the rear and the roofline, which was a excellect alteration, I think.
