Do video game players become more dangerous drivers?

Yet another study designed to prove an existing belief. That’s called pseudo-science, but it’s infecting mainstream media at an alarming rate. Somewhere along the line, the fundamental rule of proving a "cause and effect" relationship gave way to merely presenting two separate sets of statistics and linking them via theory... AKA existing belief. I’m not sure whether to laugh or be frightened.

Was eye-hand coordination ever studied? Perhaps video games are a form of training that heightens awareness and quickens reflexes... and it could help people AVOID accidents. No, that contradicts what the researchers set out to prove, so it wasn’t even considered. This is all too painfully familiar. It’s relatively harmless when discussing video games; unfortunately, it hasn’t stopped there.

There's also the likely possibility that video gamers' higher rate of accidents (if there even is one) is incidental to the fact that gamers tend to be young and male. Of course gamers drive more recklessly than your average soccer mom - but so does every other twenty-something kid.

In terms of it affecting someones driving it shouldn't. But in terms of it affecting someones thinking then yes it may result in catastrophic proportions. Especially if the player feels more confident in the game and brings it out into the real world that his car can perform just the same, completely avoiding the fact of a potential life taker.

If they were to ban racing game's then they should ban dvd,s like clarkson's.watch a dvd then you also want to drift around corners. The problem is that there are a few idiots that would still try. I race ps2 games and i know my reactions have improved,i just don't try to prove it on the road.

There was a Nissan concept about a year or two years ago that turned into a racing video game when you put it in park!

Yes I heard of it too. I think it has an XBOX 360 fitted into it and when you are parked you can use the real steering wheel to play the game ( just like real driving ). That would be cool. But the car doesnt look that good!
