BMW: Reithofer confirms plans on X1 and hints at new roadster and supercar
As you know from before, BMW has been planning the X1, a 1 Series based crossover that it expects to have on the roads by 2010. Reithofer, in an interview with AutoZeitung confirmed that the X1 is still in proposal stage but also mentioned that BMW needs to be working on debuting more high-end models like a roadster and supercar, referring to a BMW Z8 that it hopes will compete against a Mercedes-Benz SL and the M1 supercar.

BMW X1 is expected to have a range of engines from the 1 Series including four cylinder and six cylinder gas engines ranging from 145 to 220 hp, the car will use BMW X3’s all-wheel drive system.
