Concept Cars at the 2007 New York Auto Show

Bold design, technological innovation, ultra-luxury interiors and future fuels are the latest concept car trends that will be arriving at the 2007 New York International Automobile Show. The Show opens to the public on Friday, April 6th through April 15th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. Concept cars are often radical in engine or design. Some use non-traditional, exotic, or expensive materials, ranging from paper to carbon fiber to refined alloys, while others have developed engines or new propulsion systems that blend different powertrains to create cars that are powerful but efficient.

With an emphasis on new styling, technology and the environment, this year's stunning new concept cars offer a glimpse into the future, and perhaps a look at what we might be driving in the years ahead.

Of course concept cars are supposed demonstrate highly stylized design schemes and over the top interiors, but do wish that a higher percentage of these things made it into production vehicles. I think that car companies should begin to contract out some of the stuff in their interiors, even perhaps as options. I think Aston Martin really got it right my bringing Jaeger-LeCoultre in to do their clocks.

I would like to see perhaps a Jaguar with an option for a wood set designed and manufactured by Clive Christian. Perhaps Lincoln could have Henredon or Karges do their wood. I had a friend that had a Lincoln Town Car Cartier L until recently and was completely shocked to find that all of the so called “wood” was 100% plastic.

I’m not saying that companies should all start putting Patek Philippe clocks in, simply because I doubt many people will want to spend an additional $30.000.00 or so for the console clock. Then again, I hear all time about companies using fashion and this that and the other thing… or Baccarat for inspiration. You know, I could give a flying F if it is based upon Lalique: I want it to BE Lalique. Of course, that would be a rather expensive option my guess: $10,000.00 to $20,000.00. Maybe such desires are impractical, but it would be nice.
