Mulally sells 4 cars in 40 minutes at a local dealership

Focusing on the kind of vehicle that will suit a customer’s family size, Allan Mulally, CEO of Ford, got on the showroom floor and sold a total of four cars in 40 mintues. Mulally decided to visit the Village Ford in Dearborn, Michigan on March 19th and decided it would be a great time to meet customers, understand their needs and sell some cars.

Mulally took over as CEO of Ford in September of last year after Bill Ford stepped down. Mulally has experience in facing challenges at Boeing similar to the ones facing Ford in the present. He has dealt with issues including customer satisfaction, manufacturing, supplier relations and fuel prices.

I'm sorry, I call BS on this story. I was in car sales for 25 years and know one sells a car in ten minutes. You may get a, "Yes I want the car," in a few minutes, but then there's the reality of getting the customer's information, getting them into the F&I office, making sure the car gets ready for delivery and then actually delivering the car to the customer.
Mr. Mulally may have gone on the showroom floor and glad handed some buyers, but he didn't have anything close to the experience of selling cars. If he really wants the experience, he will go to a dealership for the day (and without his corporate entourage) and really try his hand at seeing a client all the way through the sales process. I honestly don't think he could sell a car in one day on the job--but at least he would have a feel for what really happens on a the showroom floor.

Common, he could sell one car in one day. You only need about 2 hours with ALL the paperwork ...
