Official Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG details
The latest addition to the potent AMG range is the 2008 Mercedes Benz CL65 coupe, a car that bows in as the performance division’s new flagship model. Packing a 6.0L bi-turbo V12 motor as shared with the S65 and SL65 AMG models, the new CL65 is capable of reaching 100km/h from rest in a brief 4.4 seconds with the 200km/h mark passing in just 13.3 seconds. Official specs for the engine read 612hp (450kW) at 5,100rpm with torque electronically limited to 1,000Nm and available from just 2,000rpm.

Complementing the high-output engine is a free-flow sports exhaust with two twin chromed V12-design tailpipes. Catalytic converters with tri-metallic coating provide a faster response from a cold start as well as more efficient exhaust-gas treatment. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via an AMG prepped five-speed auto gearbox with paddle shifters located behind the wheel. An “S/C/M” mode button in the center console allows the driver to choose between the “Sport”, “Comfort” and “Manual” driving programs.

It looks great and will perform superbly. It's a car for the conservative entrepreneur who doesn't want the hassle of driving a manual car but still getting the performance out of a top notch automatic transmission. Mercedes got me thinking the CL was ugly but now it has grown on me and I like it a lot. It's undoubtedly fast. A nice full size coupe with a lot of punch to it while maintaining a high level of luxury. A winner in my opinion.

Too big, too heavy and too much wasted power because the automatic gearbox can't cope! This is OVERKILL!
And what's with the price?! I mean in Europe this kind of money buys you a Murcielago LP640 AND a VW Golf GTi!!!!

Rich,

You're obviously a member of the lesser class because you would have known people who buy the CL65:

1) Already have a supercar.

2) Don't want a supercar.

Please, keep your poor opinions and thoughts to yourself.

Thanks.

When I first was the all new M-Bs, I thought mrecedes went to hyundai to design their cars.... but when I saw them in real, I was impressed. Good job on their new cars. They should keep that up.

I think the AMG touches really work well with the new Mercedes-Benz design theme. The S-Class, CL-Class, C-Class, etc. all have very sporty designs to them to start with. The AMG styling enhances their looks quite a bit. I wouldn't buy a new Benz without AMG queues.

saw a white CL65 AMG on the road two days ago, it looked PHENOMENAL! from the pictures it just looked silly, but on the road it stands out and looked VERY SEXY, then the same day i saw a normal CL600 in black, and did not like it at all, the AMG work on the CL give it the "ooohs and ahhhhs" factor. i've never liked white paint but that CL65 AMG was SEXY!

btw, it looked sexier to me than the CLS, and that's hard to say!
