Toyota Tosses Up To $3000 On The Hood of Some Tundras To Move Them Out

The newest incentive calls for an additional $1,000 towards the trade-in of a regular or extended cab Tundra. The Crew Max still has zero incentives on it, but the base Tundra now carries up to $3,000 in cash on the hood, depending on the model and what region in which it's purchased, which is very close to the $3,500 in incentives that you can get with a four year-old F-150. Special financing is also available on the Tundra for customers with Tier 1 or Tier 2 credit ratings.

Earlier this decade, Toyota did a terrific job of holding steady on incentives while the domestics went wild with 0% financing and $6,000 cash back offers. Now that it's trying to tussle with the Detroit Three in the pickup truck segment, tried and true Toyota discipline is out the window.

It is purely a tactical move. But it is interesting to see them use heavy incentives. They never have done that before.

The incentives are also because that base model is overpriced compared to the competition by about 3g's. I think the Domestic's in the Crewmax class are priced more similarly.

Toyota makes a V6 Tundra for the same reason Ford and GM make full size trucks with V6. There are some small businesses that need a big body truck but with not big engine in it, their loads are alot but not heavy. I'm sure you've seen many Ford or GMs or Tundras on the road with single cab, these are the V6 engines.

I think jasaero was complimenting your purchase. 5/8th ton is it's payload, not gross weight. It is considered a 1/2 ton truck, 5/8 ton is more than 1/2 ton, thus a compliment.

I was somewhat of a compliment. I don't find anything particularly bad about the truck. I just think they went a bit bigger and bruter than the domestics who have kinda finally decided to quit growing thier trucks each generation. 1/2 tons now basically have a full 1 ton payload capability. Think the Tundra is about that also, but they have everything so huge on it that I like to call it a 5/8th ton cause it doesn't actually have a bigger payload than detroit 1/2 tons, but it does have a size and presence of their 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks.
