I don't know about you but I grew up in the 80's. My parents owned Ford, GM, Chrysler cars and trucks. Then my Dad bought a toyota for the gas mileage. All those American cars blew up beofre 100,000 miles. That toyota lasted 256,000 miles before it had its life ended prematurely by a car accident.

So the way I see it. Those unions and the big three threw their customers away. They have lost a generation. You can't sell on name alone!!

Madison Avenue knows this with advertising. Get people or kids hooked on you product young and they will stay with you forever. The big three took this for granted!! I don't think I could ever go back. Trust me I have driven Cadilac, MB, BMW, AUDI and I just can't get away from Toyota / Lexus feel. And as far as quality goes is still is true. My friends have american & german cars and they are in the shop all the time!!

you guys realize that not counting the civil war, the last time foreign troops invaded the u.s. was during the war of 1812!?

EVERY war in the past century, we were sending our boys OVERSEAS. that is, WE were the invaders (or liberators if you prefer.)

now we are TRYING to "liberate" Iraq. and oh, how APPRECIATIVE the natives are!

in ordinary society, people who own guns are either 1) criminals, and potential armed robbers, 2) ordinary citizens, feeling a need for self protection, or 3) police charged with protecting citizens not in category 2) from those in 1).

at the level of nation-states today, those with OVERSIZED military forces are either 1) potentially "criminally aggressive" ROUGE NATIONS, 2) normally average countries just caught up in an arms race, or 3) SELF APPOINTED regional/world policeman countries. ("Police State," anyone? then support the "Patriot" Act.)

since the end of the cold war, supposedly we have shifted from 2) to 3).
but under the NeoCons and the current administration, the rest of the planet sees us more as shifting from 2) to 1).

NO OTHER COUNTRY is a bigger bully on the global scene today. and the target of their intended HEISTS are the oil rich regions of the planet.

saddam was ONLY a minor regional bully. and even then, mostly as directed by the CIA to do THEIR dirty work.

huu, we have similar views on cars. but obviously, differing ones on politics (except with regard to unions).

what the planet needs, is someone TO KEEP THE U.S. from "throwing its weight around." and not just regionally, but around the whole world!

now, half a century and more ago, most americans would've been PROUD that we have the capacity (and willingness) to boss around ANY other country. so were most Japanese in the period of japanese militarism/expansionism/imperialism. so were most germans when hitler was conquering all the neighboring countries.

but TODAY, now that the U.S. has NO MAJOR enemies, rather than being a peacemaker, WE have become the bad guy in most world citizens' eyes, throwing our weight around and BULLYING other countries. (we even CREATE enemies so there's "justification" for maintaining our bloated military-industrial complex.)

economically and politically, we've even done some bullying with you Canadians. how would you feel if we did this MILITARILY as well?

going back to my analogy with civilian life and CIVILIZED societies generally--

as the Wild West got civilized, there was no longer need for just about everyone to pack a pistol. LAW prevailed, and people felt safe and secure.

the Bushites, on the other hand, inherited a (relatively) peaceful world. but then the "sheriff" himself got corrupted, and started bullying oridinary people (countries). so the WHOLE PLANET is less safe today.

this whole thing about Iran: SO WHAT if they process uranium, whether for power plants OR even nukes? india has nukes. pakistan has nukes. n. korea has nukes. are we gonna bomb all their processing plants?

as bush will PROBABLY try to do in iran? (since we can't afford to invade them like we did iraq.)
