MDX takes 1st in Car & Driver Comparison

I read it. Was surprised at the LR3's last-place finish... this was an OFF-ROADING article, after all. Who cares how slow it is?

They also did mention that the Q7 wasn't included because it was longer than the others, something that I was quizzical about until I read their reasoning.

I don't think Honda has a bad rep on AutoSpies. Love Honda. Great engineering. It's just Acura. No matter how great C/D says it is... the MDX will always seem very boring to me. Very techy, nerdy. That applies to any other Acura, for that matter, except the RSX and NSX (if they ever re-appear).

Hey S4, do you like the 07 MDX? I thought the same thing you did until they redesigned it. Now I love the MDX.

I don't, honestly. Maybe it will grow on me, but the Acura name still seems so... BORING. This is coming from someone who formerly owned a Vigor and then a TL, and whose wife owned a cute little red Integra. That's what they're missing, I think. The RSX/Integra.

The front end of the MDX looks like a cow-catcher, and the rear end looks too much like an angular takeoff of the Audi rear end.

Is the MDX still based on the same platform as the Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgline? Gotcha a minivan buddy?

I think the grille looks like a cow catcher. You know, on those old steam-powered trains.

And the Escalade, Hummer, the new Audis (Their front grille)don't look like Robot?

I love the new MDX. My neighbor has one, it's in this very unique greenish-blue metallic, I love it. The engine growl is pretty great too.

Might have road presents but it sure does not have Road Presence

I remember the GL/Q7 article (with those "other" SUVs)... was it that big of a difference? I remember them commenting, multiple times, on how "gorgeous" the Q7 was and that it drove like a sports sedan. The GL was less glamorous, but still great to drive and more space-efficient.

I love them both. Best 200in SUVs, IMO.

Look at caddy, that old platform is still impressing

Thats what I was thinking too. I test drove one 2 years ago. Probably the best crossover SUV GM has, even over the newer Acadia/Outlook.

Caddy had a rough launch with the SRX. They initally priced themselves to close to the Escalade but now they corrected the price and packages. It was always a good competitor, it just never really took off.

Where is the FX. My guess is that it would not have taken first if hte FX were there.

I think the MDX is an awesome SUV. I driven all of the vehicles in this comparison and I can truly say the MDX is the best overall. Its the widest with the most road presence in the group. I also give Acura/Honda some credit for taking a risk on the front end design. Regardless of what your subjective view is, you guys have to admit, the front end is a departure from their normal boring designs.

I am very particular about vehicle designs.

Next time you are behind any High Quality Vehicle (German, Italian, British & Japanese) Take a Good Hard Look and you will notice that it is next to impossible to see past the Exhaust Pipes underneath the Car.
All you see is Back Bumper, Exhaust and Tyres (Except Range Rover- In it you see everything including Rear Suspension)

Now take a look at most Hondas, Accuras and Toyotas (Even Lexus ES Models) and tell me if you can say the same is true.

Same can be said of the MDX, I am currently visiting friends in canada and the Neighbour has an 07 MDX. The vehicle is nice, there's no denying that, however when viewed from the rear, the whole underside of the vehicle is visible, In my opinion that is just not good enough.
Might be ineffiency in packaging the under-vehicles parts properly or simply that the Rear Bumpers are too Short, but to me its just not right for a vehicle of that price bracket.

Little details make a Huge Difference

I noticed that as well, I wished they would fix that on the new MDX. The exhaust is so clearly seen. However, most people just install running boards which completely hides the undercarriage.

I'm referring to how the interior looks and feels whether your stationary or in motion. I'm talking about the overall feel and driveability of the car.

When that's superior the "details", which can be important, are insignificant.

Wow my caddy did quite impressive! I only bought it because I cant stand the HUGE waiting list on the new X5. But it was an unfair advantage becuase the X5 was a V6 (along with many of the others). Anyway I think the ranking is quite fair.... We dont get the MDX here so I cant judge it.
