Honda S2000CR -Official debut for lightweight, race-inspired version

Honda USA’s vice president says it all about the S2000CR;"The S2000 CR is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn”. We might not be too fond about the full-body aerodynamic package but according to Honda, it helps reduce lift. Even more importantly the race-spec CR features aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity and weight reduction through the replacement of the soft-top with an aluminum hardtop (-90 pounds or 41kg)as well as the removal of etxra’s like A/C & the stereo system.

Although we’re not so sure about the A/C we don’t give a rat’s merde about the Stereo; we’ll do fine with the rpm-crazy 237Hp 2.2 VTEC that remains untouched. The S2000 CR will be available as an entirely new S2000 trim level when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007.

Before you trash the car. Think objectively in the mission of this new model. Believe it or not Honda does actually succeed in building sports cars. If anyone on this site has EVER had track time in a car that was left wanting; refinements to the chassis, suspension, and aero bring tremendous benefits to a car that needed all of the above. I have spent much left seat time in a S2000 and I can believe these upgrades will help it on the track. I have a premonition that I must address the funtionality of the rear wing. Whats this? Huh? A wing on a Honda that actually is functional. Yes. Now you can achieve more downforce on a car without wings, but that goes the route of the Enzo and other high priced sports cars. This is achieved with aero undercarrages with extensive splitter and ductiing work. This=expensive. Props to Honda for offering a track day car that will turn a faster time. If you buy this for street use, I will be speechless, but not surprised.

The s2000 is beginning to look quite dated. The tacky add-ons (ie rear spoiler) will appeal to ricers though. The interior is bland and has way too much plastic for my refined taste. It is time to bury this relic and start anew, Honda.

RICEMASTER does not understand functionality v. fashion statement. CR stands for CLUB RACER, meaning that its use is intended for the track. Research wings in motorsport and how they show benefit to cars at speed and cornering.

Asians eat the most rice than any other general nationality. The term rice initially applied to Asian automotive makes.

As for wings that raise at a particular speed, usually around 60 mph rather than 40, is that they are erect when speeds are increasing not the other way around.
