NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Lexus LS460 Wins World Car of the Year
The World Car of the Year Awards has just concluded with the Lexus LS460 earning the honor of being called the planet's best auto for 2007. The LS460 beat out the Audi TT and new MINI Cooper, which were also finalists. The Audi TT, however, did not walk away empty handed, earning a trophy for World Car Design of the Year. Audi earned yet another honor for World Performance Car of the Year, with the RS4 being handed that honor

This is just the beginning of everything for Lexus. They barely scratch the surface, it simply gets better for them from here on out. It will still take some time, but they will get there. Congrats to another accolade of accomplishments...now let the bashing begin, as I have front row seats to read and laugh at all of you!!! LMAO!!!!!!

Lexus deserves the World Car Of The Year award. It wasn't an accident that the car is as good as it is. Lexus made a big splash it's first year in 1989 with the LS400. Lexus wanted to do the same again with the new LS460, and it has. It addressed all the previous models shortcoming and then some. The 380hp engine, the world's first 8 speed automatic, improved styling, all the bells/whistles, and new advanced fit/finish techniques that truly make it worthy of superb craftmanship unmatched by anyone anywhere.
Lexus worked intensively on the new LS460 to truly make it the best. It is only fitting that the trophy goes to them.

I'm sure there are some posers on the other side as well. I'm sure I would not waste my time with that, but whatever floats your boat.

Being a car for the masses is nothing to be ashamed about. Mercedes's A- and B-Classes would do quite well for the badge-hungry here in the U.S...

Speaking of "taste" most people who truly understand what that word is can also spell "appeals" correctly and also use proper capitalization and punctuation.

Lexus rigged the voting! Just kidding. Lexus has done a great job over the years evolving there brand but the fact is they have the cash to do it. Lexus wants to be everything to everyone while BMW, Mercedes, Audi appeal to a more performance and snob appeal customer. As mentioned above on this site everyone has there divisions that is to be expected. Bottom line congrats Lexus on the award. Sorry for the brief interuption we now join our regularly scheduled Audi vs BMW vs Mercedes vs Lexus feud already in progress.

Nice! I suspected this would happen. LS460 is just more... practical (?) and puts forth a better case for itself than the TT and Mini. Huge improvement over the 430; this car seems to be more than just "evolutionary"-- much like the redesign of the S-Class. The two will be fighting ferociously for the hearts of luxury car buyers everywhere.

Otherwise, go Audi. TT and RS4!!!

Way to go Lexus! I have yet had the chance to see this upclose (only one locked up on the dealer lot) so I am excited to see what it is all about. I am not biased toward one brand or another. I give it to Lexus to finally start separating itself from Toyota (except the new LX SHAME SHAME) The IS is a looker. However when I drive a car I seem to have liked BMWs products better. Forget all the "Oh Lexus is better built" Blah blah blah... I love to drive and from that standpoint, BMW's are more fun. I would love to try the Audi that won as well. But the new LS had a lot of new gizmos and such and is the best looking LS to date.

Outstanding job Lexus, it about time people start to recognize you as one of the ultimate luxury brand. The beauty of this new Lexus LS460 is classic but yet modern. So I was not surprise it won the world car of the year.

Also good job on the Audi RS4 on winning performance car of the year. To be honest I was really surprise that the Mini Cooper was on this list. I thought MB S-Class was going to be on the list, but it did not made it.

What is the matter with you? Your bias is so blinding that you can't even manage to utter one compliment towards the winning German vehicles?

What is wrong with the recipients of these awards?

RS4... why, in your twisted world, should it not win? It has Carrera-slaying performance, the practicality of four doors and the versatility of quattro AWD in one $70K package. Significantly less money than what buys you the same exclusivity in an ultra-luxury car.

TT. Obviously, it deserves the design award. There's no need to explain it.

E320 Bluetec, I'd say that's quite an achievement. I believe it has fifty-state qualifications, gets 35mpg and is as quick as an E350; it's also a luxury car. Please, give me one car that should have won the award over it, for under $60,000.

"If MB had come out with a hybrid, then you'd hear me say job well done."

Ha! I caught you! You OBVIOUSLY prefer hybrids! Why can't you just accept the E320's winning? Mercedes worked vigorously to provide the Bluetec technology in all fifty states, and the E diesel still maintains over 30mpg in normal driving, while allowing 6.5 seond 0-60 stints.

In addition, if you re-read all the posts in the E320 Bluetec blog, you would notice that both the GS450h AND the Camry Hybrid were among the "Green Car" hopeful!

"When you guys learn to accept reality, come back and talk to me."

I can easily see that you don't own a mirror.

"To be eligible for the 2007 World Green Car award, a vehicle had to be all-new or substantially revised, in production, and for sale, in at least one major market during 2006."

The VEHICLE has to be new. NOT the technology. Had the RX400h been introduced this year, it would be competing for the award- not because the hybrid technology is new (it isn't), but because the CAR is new.
