New York Auto Show: VW Touareg 2 Debuts

TOUAREG 2 MAKES U.S. DEBUT AT NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

Volkswagen's first-ever SUV has been restyled for the 2008 model year, returning as the Touareg 2. The updated version will enter showrooms with refreshed exterior styling, an impressive list of safety features and vehicle capabilities, and three powerful engine options. After its U.S. debut at the New York International Auto Show, the Touareg 2 arrives at dealerships later this spring, with pricing starting at $39,320.

Taking design cues from others in the Volkswagen model lineup, the Touareg 2's updated exterior styling now echoes the brand's signature design with its new Volkswagen "face"- specifically its chrome front grille. The Touareg 2 also has a redesigned aerodynamic and sporty rear spoiler with integrated third brake light. Other distinctive exterior features include 17-inch alloy wheels, standard on the VR6 FSI, and 19-inch alloy wheels, standard on the V8 FSI and V10 TDI Twin Turbo models; redesigned headlamps and darkened taillights; redesigned luxury seating system, with standard 12-way power driver's seat; and four all-new exterior color options – Alaska Gray, Cranberry, Galapagos and White Gold.

Another Lexus fan making a moronic comment. LX and the Touareg is not in the same segment. The Diesel version however I've seen Jeremy Clarkson test drive it on one of his episodes. It's quite impressive.

Ok just wondering, I was saying the styling looks fine to me, but I have heard they have had electrical glitches, too bad too. VWs look nice inside and out to me. I have had two GTis before and they never had one problem. Of course they were a lot lower tech than this vehicle is.

It's on ALL their new cars, except the Bug... Audi and VW have different designers, so VW pretty much copied Audi's grille and spray-painted it chrome. I was pissed off when I saw the first current-gen Jetta.

Because VW and Audi have different DESIGNERS. Audi designed the "single-frame" grille for its vehicles about five years ago, while the VW Jetta (the first VW to have the hideous chrome single-frame) came out two years ago. They are supposed to look different. To sum up, VW literally copied Audi.

As of now, Audi's former designer (Walter de'Silva, who designed the R8, among others) is the head of VW's entire design operation. Currently, the former Alfa designer (I forgot his name, but he designed the beautiful modern lineup of Alfas, maybe even the 8C) is now the head Audi designer. This also means he will design future Lamborghini and Seat models.
