New York Auto Show: Audi sends over the S5, A5 a no show

I've seen the outside... red color is hot. This car will be sweet.

As for the inside. I've only seen bad press-release shots. These "personal" shots impress me; the interior looks beautiful, as usual. The one thing I'd change in there is the roundness of the air vents/door handles. I liked the more sqared-off look, such as what's employed in my own car.

Why was I de-boosted?

you must be talking to the 20-25000 coupe crowd, because thats what the interior looks like, a low budget sports coupe

bmw- your an idiot, Audi's interiors are by far the best in the industry, 10x better then BMW

i like the front but still not a big fan of the back end. it looks too large for the sleek and agressive front end. I like the leather inside with the door panels the way they are layered and such. That is a really good look ... not too big of a fan of the readout between the speedometer and tach ... I wish the space was more narrow ..

whats wrong with the read out? its on every Audi, and is very helpful.

jmr .. People complain about the back of the BMW 335 coupe and such. What I dont get is how the back end of this car is so much better? The front of this car and profile is really sharp. The back side profile and rear end of the car isnt very nice at all. in fact it is very bland. Very un-audi like. Audi's typically have a very attractive rear tail-light and sporty look to them. I think the a#% end of this car gets away from the sport look of the rest of their line ups

The S5 looks great and will come out before the A5, so that is why it was there but the A5 wasn't.

the first S5 will come out very soon and will only come in a stick / A5 will follow in a few months

same here, before I saw the 3 series and 6 series in person, i wasnt impressed with them in pictures, but in motion on the road they look alot better. I think the same applies to 80% of cars.

'Audi didn't send Regular A5 (The main Car) to the show’. There’s definitely something not Normal/Right in Audi HQ, Chewy admit it.

I think Audi is making some styling revisions (Front end,side profile and some other minor details) and will reintroduce the slightly modified car later.

Just what I think could be the reason for the absence of Audi at NYIAS

There hasn't been a single hint that Audi would do anything styling wise to the A5. It looks great already. While I agree that the A5 should have been there, the S5 will come out earlier and maybe Audi wanted to put more focus on it.

Audi has a winner on their hands in the S5. the size of this car is perfect. the interior puts the 3 series interior to shame. throw in a nice size V8, add the upcoming RS5.....it spells perfection

I love the back side of this car, its fat and screams power!! Its resembling another car, forgot its name, Velda or Volda?

AmazingBimmer get used to people paying a lot of money for gussied up Volkswagens.

They already shell out $72K for the S6, $75K for the A8, $92K for the S8, $109K for the R8, $50K for the S5, $65K for the RS4 and close to $100K for the next RS6.

This car looks 6-series big in pictures (I realize it's not), I look at pictures of the 3er coupe & it looks very small in comparison.

Also if you ask me with exception of the A8, this is Audi's best looking interior to date! I don't like the R8's interior & the A6's while best in class is still a little conservative.

The S5 is gorgeous. 3-Series Coupe sucks ass compared to this.

As much I love the 3 series coupe. The interior from the A5 will be more interesting and better styled. Anyone know how much the A5 will be starting?

I do agree with some about the rear end. It doesn't flow with the rest of the vehicle. For some reason, I think the Cabriolet version will look better.

HOWEVER, I must reserve judgement until I get to do a walk-around. The front end is beautiful, and I do love the character lines. Perhaps the rear end will gain my approval with time... I hated the new 3 Series coupe in pictures, but after seeing it in person, I think it's the hottest coupe under $50K.

In fact, I did see an A5/S5 barrelling through the streets of Beverly Hills last week... however, it was black, with blacked-out rims, no badges and a covered grille. It was also going about 65mph in the other direction while I was at a light in our rented A6 3.2 quattro, so I didn't get the best look at it.

It is definitely not hard to surpass BMW on the interior front, so for me, choosing this over a 3-Coupe is not even a question. I'm concerned about the price of an S5 vs. a 335i though.

better than any BMW or Lexus out there!

I don't know if it's better than any BMW out there but it sure is better than any Lexus out there. Lexus doesn't even have a coupe to contend with any sports cars the German's have to offer. They insist that their 4 door sports sedans are true contenders, which they are not.

However I can't wait till a real competitor comes out from Lexus. I would assume it's at least half decent since they have had all these years to come up with a proper design as well as all the brands to take ideas from. Being the under-dog they may have a slight advantage. In terms of it being a true drivers car I don't know if it will take out any BMW or Audi. Notice I never mentioned Mercedes. It's because Mercedes makes what they make and people buy them for what they are(luxury cars with hints of sportiness). Now that doesn't mean the sporty Mercedes models aren't great handlers, but Mercedes has been known to be less racer type but more luxurious-more flash than it's German counterparts. However the SLR is a great example of what Mercedes can create.

I actually believe the AMG 'Black series' cars are a better example of the ultimate sports car from Mercedes-Benz.

The SLR is not as compromised as the race-focused Black Series.

Very nice.....I love it! I cant wait till it gets compared to the BMW 335i... now that would be one hot battle! I still prefer the BMW though, just because of my personal taste. I think they should have got rid of the 3.2 V6 they offer, because I think its underpowered and getting old....

I agree. Instead of letting the 3.2 compete with the 328i, they should've just made the entry-level A5 the 335i competitor.

I guess, however, that this means the S5 has a real place in the B8's lineup. Instead of being an oddly placed coupe that competes with neither the 335i nor the M3, the S5 will compete with the 335i, and the RS5 will compete with theh M3. I like it that way.

Again, the 3.2 V6 is far from underpowered. Its actual displacemtn is 3.1 liters, it makes 265 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. The 328i is the weak sauce engine. Only 230 hp and a pathetic 200 lb-ft of torque, this is all from 3-liters of displacement. The regular A5 shold do fine against the 328i coupe. The S5 will go up against the 335i and might possibly go above. The RS5 will be the M3 challanger, and is also likley to go above the M3. That is how Audi has always positioned its cars.

Or one step above as the RS series has shown, you silly goose. Plus, the A5 will be above the 328i coupe.

The A5 doesn't look like the 3-series coupe. Look at the lines, the headlights, the rear brake lights - the interior! Anyone who thinks Audi is copying BMW needs to get a clue!

330i? We had a 330i in 06 but now changed to 335 with the new engine. Unless in Europe they still offer that trim as well along with the 335i? I wouldn't doubt that. It is Europe after all. Many trims, models, and specs. Gotta love that.

I'm not too fond of this transformer look Audi is going through but at least they are far better then the bland looks of the previous models. As far as interiors go, all cars in this segment have very good inteiors and the differences are very minimal, axcept for the badge whores.

AmazingBimmer you can say whatever you want about the prices. You can't take away from the fact that Audi sells a whole bunch of cars above $70K.

The S6, A8L, RS6, S8 and R8 are all above $70K.

I'm going with a Z4M Roadster actually. I like the hardcore driving performance a long with top down motoring.

It is awesome in person. Cant wait to drive it!!! It has one of the best looking seats I have ever seen!!
