Toyota Tundra can't match Chevy's value. Loses out from Silverado

The new line of GM trucks seem to be very luxurious with the wood panel options and the leather of course which contributes to that look. I don't see why workers will want to sit into leather have a dirty day's work. But it is an option for those who love trucks but don't do the heavy duty stuff.

"Which is the better truck? That's a tough question."

Clearly this is only the first round, and the only reason the Silverado got 1st place was because; as motortrend put it "Price is the key to winning truck buyer's hearts and minds".

So Silverado was the better value, but the Tundra is in no way a horrible truck.

I commend toyota for just being able to compete with the American Trucks, because I am pretty sure Nissan and Honda still have to do it.

All I want Toyota to do, is just remake the Hilux that was featured in top-gear...now there is a truck.

That's completely true... however, the Tundra isn't necessarliy the "better" truck. I can recall two other occassions in which it was compared to the new Silverado, and beaten out. I don't remember the Toyota beating the Chevy at all, but perhaps I'm wrong.

What? Although the word Tundra is in english, it refers to the treeless area in the Artic region of North America, Europe and Asia. The word comes from the Russian túndra which itself comes from the Lappish tundar.

Now that is "fair" for Motor Trend, who named Silverado the TOTY, to talk about "value" by comparing a fully loaded Tundra with 5.7L v8 (381hp/408lb.ft), 6sp vs. a less equipped Silverado with 5.3L v8 (315hp/338lb.ft),4sp.

Unfortunately, Truck Trend named Tundra the new king in 1/2 ton after putting them into some real tests (total 3 rounds to sell magazines, I guess ^0^).

Actually, that Motor Trend comparison is the round 2 in Truck Trend. Funny, isn't it?

what really speaks volumes is sales. and tundra sales have been well below toyota's goals.

But Tundra sales were up last month, while Silverado sales were down.

The Silverado still sold better. Percentages mean nothing. Guess which one will have the better year? Toyota had better act fast.

Yes, huu. It would scare me if you were ever to head a car company. You would always come up with excuses as to why your vehicle (a.k.a. Toyota's) does not beat the competition; you'd sit back, content with yourself, completely ignorant to the situation. In fact, Toyota would take measures to improve its truck, and admit defeat. That is something you are unable to do, metaphorically, of course.

Actually dude, the Silverado is a great truck. Had one for 5 years and NOTHING went wrong with it, ever. Yeah the interior was cheap as hell but never rattled. This new one is a HUGE step forward from previous gen Silverado. Now the Tundra is a good truck I am sure. Side profile of this truck is really weird. I don't like their third door idea, it is weird looking and that center console....WOW THAT IS A BIG ASS DASH! LOL! I am sure the Tundra is a good truck, but practicality wise, the Siverado is better. Drive it through a Texas town away from big cities, and when it breaks, any shop will fix it. The Tundra breaks, you are S.O.L.!

Tundra is a big city truck for the East & West coast cities. I saw them in Atlanta, a few here in NYC where I live. But when I visit relatives in Texas.... I don't even think they exist. I know that that's not true, but Once you pass the Mississippi all the way to Nevada.... you only find F-150's and SIlverados. Now I am not an American car fan, but I have to give it that Americans can make a damn good truck. Quality wise. Now they had been plasticky and all inside, but rarely rattled and everything worked. Now these new trucks FINALLY get a decent interior. I am sure the Tundra is a fine ride and that it is a good truck, but I am sorry, middle America won't accept it, so you fanboys out there need to accept that also... try being in Dilly, Texas and have your Tundra breakdown....you will be outta luck and waiting to be towed to San Antonio. A Silverado, same day drive off....

maybe the hybrid version will do better.

Edmunds put the Tundra on top, better performance and mpg.

Car and Driver rated the Silverado first, with the Titan following, and the new Tundra in third place.

Motor Trend, of course, loves the Chevy.

And Road & Track had a more enthusiastic report about the Silverado than they did about the Tundra. The two haven't been directly compared.

I never liked Chevrolet's "bow tie" logo and much prefer the GMC version of this truck because it has a much nicer-looking grille and my eyes would not be offended by the Chevrolet logo. Silverado or Sierra, GM does offer a bigger bang for the buck over the Toyota Tundra. However, please note that Toyota has the more sohisticated DOHC engine. I do not trust GM's cylinder deactivation technology as GM has not proven that its design is fail safe. From what I have been able to find out, GM's response time for deactivating cylinders is around 240 milliseconds which is 6 times slower than Chrysler's cylinder deactivation system. Even at 40 milliseconds, if the system fails at high RPM, I'm worried that pistons could hit valves. I challenge GM's marketing to do some educational advertising and prove that GM's design is fail safe even if sludge in the engine oil should clog up the hydraulic part of the cylinder deactivation system.

Actually, if there was anything GM really knows how to build, that is trucks. The silverado and tahoe are very good looking, have an above average reliability, lots of offreading ability at a cheap price. Thats a winning formula... Toyota cant just appear in thin air and beat them.....
