Isuzu Confirms Land Purchase in Alabama For Possible Factory

Japanese truckmaker Isuzu is readying a full-fledged return to production in the U.S., having recently purchased land in Alabama for $7.8 million, a company spokesman said Monday.

Isuzu Motors Ltd. bought land in Birmingham, previously occupied by a warehouse of Del Monte Corp., for future business activities in North America, including possibly setting up a vehicle assembly plant there, although details cannot be disclosed, Isuzu spokesman Tadashi Ioka said.

Isuzu had a joint venture in Indiana with Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru automobiles, but withdrew in 2003, when Fuji bought out Isuzu's share in the venture and became sole operator of the plant.

The Honda Passpot was a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo... now they did rebadge the TrailBlazer.... Isuzu let go of their market. Once they were the best selling imported SUV with the Rodeo...

GM owns a good share of Fuji Heavy Indust. Isuzu use to make really good trucks, they are the oldest truck maker in Japan. Remember the Chevy Luv p/u? GM didn't want Isuzu competing against it's own half baked vehicles so they essentially forced Isuzu out of the U.S. Isuzu has made cars for Honda, Acura and GM. I use to own a Trooper and that was one of the best SUVs out of Japan. I say bring it on Isuzu.

When it comes to delivering refrigerated foods to grocery stores accross the country, Isuzu trucks are great, LOL. Let me stop, I used to own a Rodeo about 10 years ago. Wasn't a bad little truck at all, very dependable.
