Range Rovers being investigated due to faulty drive shaft
The 2002 - 2004 Range Rover models are being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration due to a faulty drive shaft that could cause the vehicles to stop while being driven. The flag went up after 38 consumer complaints, of which 17 said the vehicle stopped due to failure of the drive shaft or front-axle when the Rover was traveling more than 40 mph.

No accidents have been reported as of yet but it is reported that as many as 30,000 Range Rovers could be affected.

Sevorbeupstry, you're wrong about the Range Rover. It IS unreliable. If I remember, LR is at the bottom of the list.

Sure, it's a beauty, but I hate hearing "soul" in a list of reasons why to buy a car. Sounds ridiculous.

They are built like crap, but I'll always have a fondness for them.

No, not really.

The Range Rover is irrational... and I love it for that. It's horribly unreliable, but it's also achingly beautiful for a truck, and the interior is second to none.

It's irrational for these reasons:

• Gas mileage. It only has a 300hp V8, but it still gets 12mpg?

• Weight/size. Why get a five-seater RR that weighs 5500lbs when you can get an RX350 that weighs 4200lbs?

• Reliability. You could do SO much better.

• Slow, slow, slow. Range Rover Supercharged? That's Cayenne Turbo money.

And I still want one.

The reliability on a Range Rover is worst than a Hyundai or any domestic vehicles for that matter.

Nah, Range Rover Supercharged. RR Sport, while every bit as sexy as the "real" one, is exactly that- a fake. A Range Rover for people who can't afford a Range Rover.
