BMW: First-quarter sales rise while March down by 1.9%

BMW said today that while first-quarter sales rose 0.1 percent from last year with a total of 333,276 BMW, MINI, Rolls Royce cars sold, March sales for new cars fell by 1.9 percent to a total of 141,568. For March, Rolls Royce was the only brand to report a sales increase of 6.4 percent while BMW cars fell 2 percent and MINI cars fell 1.5 percent.

The BMW brand sold 286,185 vehicles in the first-quarter, an increase of 1 percent. The Rolls-Royce brand sold 113 vehicles, an increase 5.6 percent.

I'm totally amazed none of the Lexus fanatics have come on this to tell again how their brand is going to dominate the world (sarcasm). I would be interested to see how Mercedes did worldwide in the first quarter - if anyone has an actual press release please forward (don't pull #'s out of the air. Meanwhile the lead BMW has over Audi is narrowing as Audi posted 1st quarter sales of 248,000 (see press release):

BMW brand (excluding Mini)= 286,185 vs. Audi 248,000
Seems like the main difference is here in N. America - elsewhere they must be running "tailpipe to tailpipe". (Sales of Rolls Royce and Lamborghini are tiny for both BMW and Audi respectively)

I believe Audi is #2 at the moment. I remember their beating Mercedes for the first two months of the year; not sure about March.

I do not understand what the purpose of auto sales stats unless you own company stock. I like BMW and have liked them for years from 1976 until today , if fact I liked BMW more when they were the unique choice, today they are not the unique choice.

The difference? I actually own stock in Audi. Even if I fail to buy another Audi for awhile, I will continue to own stock in Audi, and probably in whatever the next company is that I buy from. Probably BMW.

i like ferrari i think they make the best cars in the world and they do not need to sell a million cars. i hope there will never be a Ferrari VW golf hatchback or SUV.

Ferrari is ubiquitous... like BMW. I prefer Aston Martin, Porsche, Lamborghini and even the Audi R8.

Completely not pertaining to this article....you asked me in a previous post if I saw the Buick Enclave in person. I did. I live just outside Detroit. It's really nice....very elegant and sleek. GM is doing good things with that platform. Next they just need to add the Direct Injected 3.6 to it.
