Gas Guzzling North Americans Continue Their Ways

Forget what you've heard about how vehicle buyers are abandoning their gas-guzzling, climate-change-abetting land yachts for eco-friendly fuel sippers.

Ain't happening. At least not in North America.

Yeah, we fast butts Americans are going to continue consuming large amount of sugar and fat so we need larger and lager SUV to hull our big fat butts around. Hell with global warming and environment concerns. That’s other countries’ problems. All that advances in fuel efficiency technology are negated by we Americans are ignorant and ambivalent to conservation. Who cares? On with our “bigger, the better: mantra!! Health care? Brah! I want my juicy steak and potato! I want my gallon soda to go with my fast food lunch! Don’t forget loads of sugar for dessert! Our next generation is going to weight 20% more with life expectancy 15% shorter but we are proud of it because we ARE Americans!

You can't take this article seriously anyway it comes from the Canadians. Does anyone take them seriously?? They are the same as France in my opinion!!!

I am Canadian and I don't take what you say SERIOUSLY. I also have properties throughout the US and I'm proud to own American soil. However, fools like you make all American's look bad. I don't blame the French for disliking American's because they probably deal with many morons like you all the time. The American-Canadian relations are strong and the two countries are great business partners.

However jokes like Canadian Bacon, and "EH?" I laugh about myself as it IS quite funny. But the "EH" stereotype runs in the US as well. If I remember correctly, the movie JarHead had a soldier say ****en Eh.

Anyways this is a car website so keep on that topic. Lets not bring anything about Canadians or anything racial. I'm probably the only Canadian on this website but I have to defend my country as they are just as good in writing articles as an American.

Stay on topic. That is exactly what my post tried to do. Look I am far from Don Imus and will never be politically correct. We all know that Canada is socilst heaven and that is all that I was pointing out. Because that is where the article came from and it has a slant. We seem to have a lot of that today from all of the posts from the Church of Global Warming and Environ"mental"ism.

I say post only should be about cars from now one not Global Warming Propoganda!!!

I wasted my time reading this article.
Anybody who actually has some common sense, spends time outdoors and knows right from wrong knows that this global warming hysteria is a bunch of crap. Of coarse we should do what we can to keep pollution down but to say we are the cause of global warming is just dumb. Even if we all stopped driving right now the earth would continue to warm. It will keep warming until something dramatic happens like a meteor hits or a large volcano erupts or other. That’s the way it works. Plus if you want to go yell at a country that’s polluting the air go talk to China and Russia. It’s a fact that in America we have cleaner air and water then we did 20 years ago. A lot cleaner. These people like Al Gore are in it for the money and power and if you do not see this then you need to go find a clue.
As long as we keep trying to do our part including not letting businesses pollute then everything will be fine we just can’t be lazy about it.

Gas Guzzling North America will see more consumers of Hybrid and in the future more Diesel buyers. Toyota has made a success story out of Gas Guzzled North America and I think diesel after some good marketing and exposure will follow.

Toyota's hybrid is a big hit with the Toyota and Lexus. Mercedes new Bluetec should be a hit once it is more exposed. Two great technologies to help our Earth.

I saw Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" about global warming and it hit me pretty hard and it got me worried. The US is the world's #1 in emissions followed by Europe I believe and then China. If Greenland's icecap melted say good bye to New York (Ground Zero & surrounding areas), Beijing(China), and many heavily populated areas in the world.

You're a freekin idiot!!! Do you have any clue why Greenland is called Greenland???? Give me your phone number and I will call you in 5 years when the end of the Al Gore world doesn't havppen and he is laughing all the way to the bank with his other UN communist friends!!

That movie has been disproven over and over and over!!

P.S. Hey europeans we don't want diesels. Blutec and any other diesel will never do well.

Even if the facts from his movie has been disproven it doesn't change the fact that the ice caps are melting. So who are you to call me an idiot? I used Al Gore's film as an example that woke me up to realize what's going on in this world.

So why don't you calm your A$# down and relax a little boy about your political views. This is a car site. Fact of the matter is Gas Guzzlers contribute to pollution plain and simple. You disagree on that too 'idiot'?

Wow, that was a really poorly written article.
How bad is it, let me count the ways....

Hummer sales are up, but that's because of the more fuel efficient H3 (Not that I'm giving any credit to Hummer, but facts are facts.)

Truck sales are down, the article admits it but ignores the fact because it doesnt match the point.

Hybrid and esp. Prius sales are WAY up, not petering out.

SUVs are down, CUVs are up.

Subcompacts are up.

Saving the earth may not be the number one priority for car consumers, but it is happening. The govt wont seem to do a damn thing about it, the Big 2 and Chrysler pay a lip service (with the E-85 lies and so-called mild hybrids). But consumers, month after month, are making better and better decisions when they go to make their next purchase.

I'm always fascinated (and scared) how easily some rally to such "noble" causes like global warming etc. Some have this guilt for being well off, others despise them for being well off and both come to the same sad conclusion that being able to afford certain "luxuries" is somehow bad. Following this logic I'm guilty for having a full stomach while others are going hungry, despite the fact that I will have spent 10 times more time in my lifetime studying and working exactly for the purpose of keeping my stomach full. I'm also guilty for driving a good vs a bad car or a big one vs a small one and since there is no non-pathological reason for this guilt, one had to be invented: global warming. Screw the fact that just 30 years ago we were being warned of the next imminent ice age, screw the fact that Mars is heating up even faster than Earth (maybe from those two rovers) and screw all scientific evidence that the earth temperature goes through cycles. There's no grant money in that just as much as there's no problem that governments can't swear they can fix with more of my money.

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it”

Ok Idiot 63. Prive that the polar ice caps are melting. Where are the facts. The warming stopped in 1998. WHat about the pending ice age in the 1970's. What ever happend to the hole in the ozone that was going to fry our skin? This is just the latest trendy attempt at killing capitalism and moving towards a one world government that has the power to regulate and tax starting with the UN.

Look into it and come up with the facts.

As for me keeping my politics out of this??? Quit posting liberal talking point articles about gloabl warming that really don't have to do anythign with cars. I f you read some of my other posts I am consistant on this. I come here for care facts but half of the articles are laced with the latest trendy liberal program or dooms day scenario.

So how about you keep your crap off of this site and just stick to cars and I won't respond when these hacks try and push an agenda!!!

it healed itself after INTERNATIONAL CONCERN resulted in INTERNATIONAL TREATIES to ban cfcs. duh!

of course, a troglodyte like you think redneck 'mericans have the right to do whatever they want. science be damned. foreign commies be damned. and the UN and ALL international organizations and concerns be damned.

Wow, I could barely read that.... You must be the redneck!!!

P.S. No facts once again. The reason you don't hear about the hole in the ozone anymore is because the science was wrong!! The hole in the ozone is natural and increases and decreases according to conditions in the earth atmosphere. So you can keep using your non CFC hairspray and think that that little can caused so much havoc with the earth. All of your comments just make me laugh because you are just a walking, talking trendy dooms day scenario!!

Oh yeah... I almost forgot. I want to keep up my theme of Liberals and their programs kill people. Now that we have banned CFC. The foam that is used on the space shuttle has never been the same and was the direct result of the astronauts dying in the last shuttle accident.

Liberals Kill People with their junk claims that eventually end up being disproven!!!! Nuff said.

How you like me now Redneck Boy!!!

It doesn’t matter if you people think this is a giant conspiracy, its no excuse to justify the severe pollution of our planet.

You want facts, here they are:
Pollution=bad
No pollution=good

i doubt if jason is EVEN 10 years old. mentally anyway. obviously, he is NOT smarter than a 5th grader.

jason, you are totally IGNORANT about chemistry. do you have ANY idea how many ozone molecules are destroyed by just a single carboflourone molecule? do you know what catalysts are? ozone holes vary in size SEASONALLY and that is natural. but the extent of it's disappearance BEFORE the banning of CFCs was several orders of magnitude GREATER than natural cycles. THAT was the reason scientists and the int'l community ACTED.

did you think they did all that, even convincing governments to regulate industries, JUST for fun?

you are SO IGNORANT, you could not recognize my mocking YOUR redneck attitude.

you are SO IGNORANT, you easily got brain-RINSED to believe Liberals are the bad guys. (look up the word in a dictionary and educate yourself a little.)

if you THINK you actually can analyze things and not just regurgitate propaganda, tell me, why is it that those who are MOST VEHEMENT against good CONSERVATIon ideas and principles have the gall to call themselves CONSERVATIves!?

is that simple IRONY? or gross HYPOCRISY?
