Turner Motorsport to Debut the BMW Hartge H50 V10 E90 3 Series at Bimmerfest 2007

One of the world’s fastest sedans will be present in the Turner Motorsport display area at Bimmerfest in Santa Barbara, California on May 5. The Hartge H50 four-door is powered by a 550-hp V10 engine from the range-topping M5 sedan and propels it to a top speed in excess of 200mph and to 60mph in under 4.5 seconds.

The Turner Motorsport and Hartge display will be a prime attraction at Bimmerfest – one of the largest BMW-only gatherings in the world. More than 3000 people are expected to visit the show, located at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara. The Turner Motorsport display area will be featured in the main vendor area.

Turner Motorsport is one of North America’s largest BMW-exclusive tuners, with over 5000 parts on offer to casual BMW fans and the most-serious of BMW racers alike. They are the official importer for Hartge products and automobiles for the USA and enjoy a close relationship with other German companies such as H&R and Bilstein. Turner’s expertise at tuning BMWs for the street is a direct result from their success on the racing circuit. The Turner Motorsport team was won four major sports car championships in the last five years.

Hartge has been tuning BMWs since 1971 and was recognized as a small vehicle manufacturer in 1985. Hartge cars are built as new cars in their Beckingen, Germany headquarters. The H50 sedan is based on the latest E90 platform but is thoroughly transformed by the Hartge staff into a completely new model. The H50 features the 5.0-liter V10 and SMG-II transmission from the M5 but is further massaged to produce 50 more horsepower than a stock M5. Upgrades continue throughout the car to make the H50 not only one of the fastest four-doors on the planet but also one of the best-handling and balanced cars on the road.

You would hope it would reach 60mph in under 4.5 seconds. Doesnt the 335 reach 60 in about 4.7?

Most people care about 0-60, it's just a standard way of comparing every car. Now if a car is impresive to reach 60, then you can assume it will be inpresive at 155.

no, the best was 4.9 sec for the 335i, and there was a question about that 335i, it might have been tuned alittle bit, but like the guys above 0-60 isnt everything

actually pretty much every test got 4.8 seconds. Including the "questionably tuned" Edmunds car you bring up in every. single. thread. For what it's worth Car and Driver dyno'd a 335i provided by BMW AND one that came from someone who bought one off the lot -- both were putting out 270-280hp and 290-300lb-ft of torque at the wheels. Both of them. But maybe that customer got lucky and accidentally bought a "specially tuned" one.

True, all it will do is use more gas. That 4.0 will do a better job when the M comes out.

550hp V10 in a 3 series under 4.5 sec to 60mph? I would expect 0-62mph (100kph) in under 4.0 sec.

I think it's pretty cool. Basically this is an M3, in sedan form, but with the M5's powerplant. Hartge did this some years back with the last gen M5 400 HP V8, and that car was BAD ASS. I saw a video - the exhaust notes were just sublime.

I think this car is very cool. Nothing like outlandish hp in a relatively small car.

And as far as 0-60 times go. The reason why 0-60 times aren't always important is that they can be hampered by traction at the start, which is probably one of the only problems with this car besides price. Once you hooked this car up at the start it would blow the doors off the 335i, the new M3 and even the venerable M5.

I agree.

What's really fun about this kind of horsepower is what you can do when you're alredy rolling. You can pull away from cars on the freeway like they're standing still. Turning the back end with the throttle doesn't require any work at all, just a blip of the throttle and you have nicely controlled oversteer on dry pavement.

This an interesting problem that BMW will face in 5-10 years when horsepower race pushes the limits of two tires for traction. Will BMW go AWD or will they just mount Viper sized rear tires on the rear of their M cars?
