Jaguar Sales Plummet

yes i think the XF is hot. unfortunately, jaguar has been neglected for so long. they have no new engines at all. zero. each new model is just a new body shell and interior.

Yes, they NEED a new V8. And yes, I do think the XF has the potential. They just need to do something with it!

I think the XF will be a hot seller, but a car company cannot survive with only one product, specially when it is not a high volume car.

The sales drop does not surprise me because Jaguars are overpriced and there are not enough dealers. I love the Supercharged XJ because XJs have aluminum bodies and I love supercharged engines; however, I would pick the Audi A8 over the Super XJ because it too has an aluminum body but has better seats and AWD which is not available in the XJ. I would also pick the Mercedes S-Class over the Super XJ because nobody has been able to beat the S for seat comfort. The XJ should sell for about 2/3 the price of the S-Class. If the lack of AWD is a deal-breaker, one could buy a cheaper Jaguar based on the old Mercury Mystique but then it would not be a true Jaguar (as in poor man's Rolls Royce).

The XJ IS 2/3 of the S-Class. Think of it this way: the avg. S550 is about $95K. The XJ starts at $64,250.

And it's only (ironically) the lower-end models that are overpriced. S-Type starts at a ridiculous $47K (I forget if it's 47 or 49), and X-Type starts at about $36K (?). The XJ is a great deal, and so is the XKR. Only $10K more than the normal XK for 120hp more!

I was just at the NY Auto Show and it was interesting to note that a lot of the luxury makes didn't let you get in all of their vehicles (RS4, R8, CL 65 AMG, the supercharged Range Rover) but Jaguar let you into all of theirs. More than one person remarked that Jaguar looked desperate at the show. All felt kind of sad because like myself they want to see this storied brand survive. Jaguar will never (and should never) become huge (they destroyed their cache with the X-type) - but it would be nice to see it healthy.

Jags are quite stale. I love the XK but it costs waay to much to keep the brand alive. The XF needs to get here yesterday. THE XJ rather than being updated should be redesigned. Ford has no problem taking on debt for everything else, lets take on some more debt to save jaguar.

The XK is underpowered, but it is Jaguar beauty at its best. The XKR is a great deal, and has more than enough power.

But I'm not 100% sure about it being a class-leader. It would be tough to choose between the four main players- XK, 6 Series, 911, SL.

Lexus King, you are an idiot. Lexus did not displace any Jag buyers.

People who buy Jags are looking for a mature convergange of performance, style and sophistication, and don't care about the things that make Lexus good or better than Jag (like reliability, lease residuals, automatic parallel parking, around-the-corner headlamps, Nakamichi sound systems, etc). For this reason, BMW and Mercedes are hurting Jag more than anyone.

I'm guessing you have gold spinner rims on your 1990 ES250?
