Recall Wednesday: Ford Recalls 527,000 Fire Prone Escapes

Ford is recalling 527,000 Escape sport-utility vehicles because of a problem in the antilock braking system that could cause fires, the company said Tuesday. Missing or incorrectly installed wiring harness seals on the Escape's antilock brake connector could allow water and other contaminates such as brake fluid or road salt to enter the ABS connector causing corrosion. escape_hybrid.03.jpg Ford Escape hybrid versions are not affected by the recall. (April 8) Play video The corrosion, in turn, could "lead to an illuminated ABS warning indicator, an open fuse, and in some rare instances smoking, melting or burning of the electrical ABS connector," the company said in a statement.

The recall affects 444,880 Escapes from the 2001-2004 model years in the U.S., as well as 82,000 Escapes in Canada, Mexico and Europe, Ford said.

Ford isn't even a luxury company like Lexus,that means that they are not in direct competition,you probably mean Toyota with their vehicle line up,Toyota has past Ford and is now going for GM!!

An Escape..the name says it all. It means get out, get away from...escape!! Those things are junk. Ever driven one w/ only 10K miles on it? Sounds like it's been through the Enterprise Rental Fleet...twice. They sell 'em cause the discount the crap out of 'em.

My dad has had 3 for company cars. He inspects construction sites. Drives about 5,000 miles a month.Gets a new one between 150k to 175k miles. Has had no problems other than basic repairs like replacing brake pads. They all have held up great. His last one only had one rattle when he got traded. It came from the hitting a deer. After it was repaired it had the rattle.
