The XF should be amazingly beautiful... think about it: if Mercedes can make the CLS gorgeous, then the even MORE elegant Jaguar can take the same concept and capitalize on it. I can't wait.

If it comes with AWD as an option and is on sale by next year, it will be on my wife's list. She still loves the Jaguar "look," and it would be great if the XF could be in the running.

I guess he just likes Jaguars but the press reported earlier that he drives a Lexus. If Ford can get the MSRP of an XJ SuperV8 down to 2/3 the price of a Mercedes S-Class, I'll probably buy it, but only if Ford keeps making the XJ with aluminum bodies and keeps the supercharged version available. Ford should clone the S-Class seats for the Jag -- surely Mercedes patents on those seats (if they are valid) have expired by now. Ford should also offer the XJ Super V8 with AWD if it wants to compete with the Audi A8.

Jaguar is a totally different experience and is not really a competitor to the germans.

The DEW platform was first started by Ford and then Jaguar later helped co-develop it for both the S-type and LS. The car used Jaguar parts mostly with the exception of the V6 and some electronics. The first transmission was a Ford until they switched the the 6 speed ZF auto. The V8 in the LS was actually Jaguar's V8 with Ford heads. This was done to increase volume of the engine and reduce cost. I don't know how much of the x-type is ford but it's more than the S-type for sure.

Well I used to think that way except not that extreme. Until i got a fusion that one of the best cars ford makes. Jags are untouched except that the EUROPEAN MONDEO shares some parts with the X type. Ford's recent duratec 35 is on some top 10 engine list. And the engine fires on the new super duty is from the supplier.Most are built by Yamaha which builds toyotas engines also

Ford has their own engine plants. Some engines are built by Yamamha like the Volvo V8.

Now, I am not entirely sure how well this comment will be received, but thinking about it, I suppose I really don’t care. I happen to agree with wooow at least in a fundamental sense. I am not so entirely sure those who buy Jaguars are like, in many ways, those who purchase German cars. I may be completely full of it.

I’ve read multiple times that Jaguar’s historical competition is really Maserati. Of these, usually reviews, I admit that I have yet to see a truly adequate explanation of why they believe that is. Historically of course they share low volume, beyond that I really don’t know. Be that as it may, Jaguar seems to understand both this, and the mistake that was made by attempting to compete with the German cars. They have labeled the new XJ as a “better developed Quattroporte,” as I recall. They could price it to compete and so long as I like it I would pay it: in fact I am anticipating such an increase.

The XJ did beat the 7 series in several road tests before the 7 got beefed up with more power and suspension tuning. The XK has beaten the 6 series in all road tests so far but the one from Edmunds that admitted that they purposely drove the 650i harder because they felt the Jag wouldn't keep up anyway.

Not to mention that everybody says the XK far outhandles the DB9 which costs twice as much.

How do you believe you will price the new [2010] XJ?

You know there is an interesting thing that occurs in some luxury markets, particularly with clothes. Normally, demand is an inverse function of price. So as price goes up the demand goes down. However in some instances demand is a direct funtion of price. Namley, at the price goes up, the demand goes up. As I said this occurs often in the clothing industry where women are the customers.

Neiman Marcus is the temple dedicated to the worship of this inversion.

I've read [but am no expert] that Jag does intend to move upmarket to "higher margin" sales. This is why I ask of the anticitated price: I'm curious what you think.

I am highly very interested in the 2010 XJ's interior. I am partial to the English interior aesthetic and hope I like it. I am also, therefore curious of the XF interior as an indication of the general direction they intend to go.
