Lincoln finally showing signs of comeback
Rarely do you hear Lincoln’s name when one speaks of American luxury cars (usually it’s all about the Caddy). But now struggling Lincoln is finally showing some hope after having a terrible drop in sales from 200,000 in the mid-90s to only 120,000 in 2006. Showing its struggling parent company Ford that it is still breathing, Lincoln is up 8.1 percent year-to-date with a 6 percent increase in deliveries in March.

Contributing to sales are the new 2007 models including the Lincoln MKX crossover, the MXZ sedan, Mark LT pickup and Lincoln’s pride and joy, the Navigator fullsize SUV.

MKX and the MKZ were the two main models that contributed to Lincoln’s recent success with sales of the MKX totaling 3,054 and the MLZ totaling 3,625. “Sales are being driven by the MKZ and MKX,” Pipas told WardsAuto. “MKZ retail business is up over the last three months of last year, and the MKX is all retail business that is incremental because it wasn’t (on sale) at all last year.”

He went on to say that the Lincoln lineup will only get stronger when its new fullsize CUV, based on the new Ford Flex, hits showrooms. No date has been announced for the fullsize CUV as of yet.

Let’s hope Ford spends some more time with Lincoln and gets the luxury division pumping once again.

First glance it looks like the Maybach Exelero but not as I look at it longer. It looks alright and the grill is big enough for many decades to come since grills seem to be getting larger (I.E Audi)

Ford really dropped the ball when it let the Lincoln brand go almost into oblivion. The Town Car of recent years has been nothing but a Ford Crown Vic with a fancier grille and interior. The Mercury Grand Marquis was somewhere in between and offered the best value for the money so that is what I drove in the nineties and early this century before retuning to Audi cars. Lincoln never went to a more powerful (say at least 300 hp) DOHC V8 for the Town Car so it remained underpowered for that class of car. Also, people have not forgotten the rusty Fords of the sixties and seventies and some former owners of these rust buckets still say that "on a really quiet night you can hear a Ford rust". No wonder Ford is now strugling to remain a viable car company.
Ford now has an airplane guy at the helm so why not let him adopt some (not all the expensive ones) aerospace materials, fasteners and manufaturing practices to make better cars.
