Brembo wins contract for Lexus IS-F 350 brakes

Brembo wins contract for Lexus IS-F 350 brakes
Brembo, an Italian auto parts maker and one of the most respected brands in the braking system industry, said today that it has won the contract for the Lexus IS-F 350. Brembo said that it will be producing the braking system for the Lexus IS-F 350, for which production will start in the second-quarter of 2007. This is Brembo’s first contract with Toyota.

The Lexus IS-F is Lexus’ competitor to the BMW ’M’ cars and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG cars. The car will have a 5.0 liter V8 engine that produces more than 400 horsepower and 350 ft-lbs. of torque giving the car the ability to do 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

Only 1,000 will be built for the United States.

does anyone know why it's called IS-F 350? i'm betting on 350 bhp!!

400+hp, 0-60 in LESS than 4.9s, actually Lexus said "Well Below" 5.0s!
IS-F's hp is limited by the design condition, No Gas Guzzler Tax.

It's not called the ISF 350. Just ISF.

Go figure to make the IS worthwhile they need to put European parts on it!

Would you say the same about the G35 from Infiniti with its optional Brembo braking system?

henstahensta - 4/14/2007 1:07:11 AM

Yes, amazing and to make a BMW worth it they had to ask Mitsubishi to make their turbo for their 335 & 535 cars. So amazing the Germans asked the Japanese to put TWO of those Mitsubishi turbos in EACH car.

Abraham Lincoln once said, "It is better to keep quiet and let everyone assume you are an idiot than to open your mouth and confirm their assumptions."

Now i'm hoping BMW has some serious brakes for the M3, because i wouldn't want Lexi to beat it, not even in the braking department!
more seriously, good choice by toyota because Brembo is among the best, if not THE best in the brakes business. It would be great if they gave the IS-F carbon ceramic discs!

i guess now the is-f is not going to be just faster then the m3, its also going to stop faster.

I don't think so :)))))
since the 335i can get a 4.9 easily (auto trans) I am sure the M3 will be much better than that.

The Jaguar XJ, even low-level six-cylinder models in Europe, is standard with Brembo brakes.

"Brake is a safety feature, not performance"

are you kidding? the responsiveness, power and feel of brakes are essential to performance. whether braking hard to come down from high speed or feathering off the brakes as you go into a tight corner, brakes are integral to performance driving.

but this would assume you drive a performance are.

who cares.

Toyota has to have a name-brand braking system, it's not like that the rest of the car is worth mentioning.

Unless it has a 3rd pedal, this car is not worth mentioning in the same sentence as a M3.

with Brembo brakes, for sure the IS-F will stop on a dime and stop all those commments that the Lexus cars don't have good brakes.

Sailor, I agree with most of your comment... but no, the LS460 can't compete with any other car in its class in terms of braking distance.

I remember arguing this once before, and it so happens that the LS460L stops THIRTEEN FEET later than the S550. That's a massive gap for such similar cars.

SupraNeverBackSupraNeverBack - 4/15/2007 4:24:10 PM

Autoweek's long term LS460L (may not have touring package):

"Braking is an LS strong suit. The car needs just 113 feet to stop from 60 mph, which puts it on a level with sports car thoroughbreds such as the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (112 feet)."

"...with winter now in the rearview, the Lexus carried us through the heart of a Michigan snow season without a fuss. Despite its rwd layout and being shod with all-season rubber, we had no problems in the slippery stuff. “The brakes and tires on this LS are awesome in the snow,” wrote one editor. “There is no need for snow tires.”

Well said Sailor.

People are taking this braking issue way out of proportion to reality. The LS is a luxury car who's focus is on refinement. And even so, the braking distance tests have not been conclusive as you pointed out. It's not as if when you step on the brake pedal the car fails to brake like Audis of the '80s...

All this talk about Lexus' terrible brakes leave me to believe that none of you have actually driven any of their cars and just like to quote what they read in magazines. Don't believe everything you read, you never know if the writer is actually subjective and very few are.
And the fact that some of you are calling Brembo a German brand shows your lack of knowledge.
And Ricemaster you have to be the most clueless of them all. First comparing a G35 to an M3 and now saying braking plays no role in performance. And you apparently drive an Evo.

ok, i give up, german fanboys win. apparently japanese cars dont come with brakes. they are optional. the fact that lexus is putting brakes on the is-f 350 is fact that they are copying bmw. and now that they are going to use a german company, brembo, just shows how far lexus has to go to make the lexus is-f 350 match the 328i in braking performance, let alone the m3!

sorry guys but one has to consider that you might be commenting on something posted by a 14 year old.
