Porsche to VW, Toss Your Toys! Are Lamborghini and Bugatti Going To The Auction Block?

Volkswagen Group could dispose of its high-end supercar brands Bugatti and Lamborghini, according Porsche boss and VW supervisory board member Wendelin Wiedeking.

When asked about the fate of the two brands in an interview with an industry newspaper, Wiedeking is quoted as saying ‘no toys anymore’.

In my opinion, the VW Group has the most well round, best managed portfolio in the industry. From the Golf to Gallardo they literally have every market covered, and they manage to do so with out cannibalizing too many of their own products. Buggati and Lamborghini fit really nicely into it and do a great job filling certain uber niches. It would be a shame to see Porsche throw them away, for what I believe is partially a pride issue. True they would be the jewel of the organization, but the way Porsche is going it seems they are striving to be more attainable by the masses. Lambo is in a different class, and as I remember it, Porsche didn’t do all that well when it tried to compete in it with the GT. There is room for everyone, and in the end they would all end up benefiting.

It is kind of selfish to get rid of Lamborghini so Porsche can be the house hold supercar maker. However, my main concern is that will the quality of Lamborghini's be compromised.

As for Bugatti they can build ultra-exclusive luxury barges. As shown in the Veyron quality is not an issue with that company.

This will be interesting, boss against boss, seeing that Ferdinand Piech is the one who started the bring Bugatti back campaign and Phaeton thing. Audi should separate and keep Lambo, unless Lambo has become profitable enough to support itself.

Audi should oversee Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini, and of course, Audi. VW should maintain its own brand, Seat and Skoda. Porsche should oversee both divisions, but the luxury brands should mainly be under Audi's control.

I hope they do sell lamborghini, to someone like Horacio Pagani ,who like's mean looking ,driver focused machines. Proper old school supercar similar to the Diablo.

It makes sense. Otherwise there are too many in-house rivals. Lambo vs High End Porsches and Audi vs Low End Porsche. Also Audi vs Lambo. VW already owns Seat and Skoda. It needs to concentrate on core business. So in the future it will be VW/Porsche/Seat/Audi/Skoda which is already a lot. BMW should purchase either the Lambo or the Bug. After all, BMW powered the best supercar of them all, the McF1.
