Next Toyota Land Cruiser goes up market and will be identical to the Lexus LX570?

How is this any different than the last-gen twins? The only discernable differences were the front and rear fascias... the interiors were identical- have an LC and want an LX? "Add wood, mix for five minutes."

You guys just hate me for saying Lexus is still rebadged Toyotas. Well in this case with the Land Cruiser will be identical to the LX. Is the Land Cruiser a rebadged Lexus? or the other way around? both ways it doesn't ignore the fact.

Som Lexus models are rebadged Toyotas, e.g. the LX and the ES. However, most Lexuses are independent cars altogether, e.g. IS, GS, and LS.

Even, say, a Lexus ES is not really a rebadged Camry because the ES has way more luxury features than a high-end Camry. However, the ES shares similar components to the Camry and structurally is basically a Camry.

But all car manufacturers do this. Many Ford use Mazda components, and most GM cars use Daewoo components, etc. If a car isn't what the badge says it is then it's impossible to define what a car is. Hence a Lexus is a Lexus only because it has a Lexus badge. If it isn't then every single other car is not what its badge says it is.

E.g. a Toyota Camry pay get its spark plugs from firm A. A spark plug is 0.5% of a car. Suppose the Chevy Malibu sources its spark plugs from the same firm (firm A). Then does that mean that a Chevy Malibu is 0.5% Toyota? Does that mean a Toyota Camry is 0.5% Chevy?

What an ugly car. That's all I can say, really. Lexus sure messed this one up.

I am glad that at least someone agrees that this is a car too exept with truck like fuel consumption! What a pos! I am shure it is nice to drive and reliable but when I buy an suv it better have some off road capabilities! My civic could follow this almost anywhere!

This vehicle is not ugly as suggested by "Willis" -- it ha a nice practical industrial look to it. I Think Toyota is wise to badge it as a Toyota rather than a Lexus. I hope it comes to North America soon.

It won't have any different technology from the Toyota-- they're technologically identical. Same engines, same transmissions, and I'm pretty sure everything that's standard on the LX will at least be available on the Land Cruiser, if not standard.

If your idea of "way more luxury" is Lexus putting slabs of wood trim everywhere, then yes, the LX570 will have way more luxury than the LC.

the LX really is an LC with extra wood on the doors. i did a side by side comparison, they even have the same steering wheel!

i think its really nice for the next lx, exept they got to change the rear light before they send them out.

What a princess compared to the older off road capable trucks they used to be. They should keep this for the soccer moms and make an off road land cruiser that you wouldn't have to modify to take off road.

Too bad they didn't put money to have the 3rd row fold flat into the floor

Great idea! This is definatly a car site! I love the folding seats idea but come on drakula has 1 more vote than me ! I am the only one that has pointed out that this is a princess that has no off road ability! look at the ground clearance! My 2007 civic could follow this!

Lexus should have morphed the LX model into something like the Q7. The GX is big enough as far as "Real SUV" they need. A FULLSIZE crossover (kinda like the Q7) with strong L-finesse stying and V8 hybrid option would have been a real head turner. (think much bigger alternative to the RX)...

they've always been identical except for trim and badging.

I don't know what else to say other than I don't like it.. it can be the best of everything but its not something I would buy.. Oh and the SUV pictured here looks set up for the street.. don't think this one would do to good offroad..
