IPOD sucks? what are you talking about, I couldnt live without it, from using it in my car to runnung to the gym, or just listening to it at home, its awesome.

What sucks about the iPod? Are you just trying to be a non-conformist? It sells better than the Zune, Zen Creative, Reo etc. for a reason. IT'S BETTER. Go Apple!

I'm certainly open to the idea that something mediocre can still sell well. But Stereophile's John Atkinson and most of their reviewers love the iPod. My only beef with it is that it doesn't support the FLAC lossless format.

Sailor, what phone do you have the plays music better? My son has a SLVR, and it sounds like crap, but it has iTunes on it.

I have an Ipod Nano, and honestly, there's better than apple hardware systems. Using some whacked out Apple proprietary software is a pain in the ass. And contrary to what "everyone" says, ipods ARENT intuitive to use. Same goes for Apple computers. They are good for people who are right-brained. Us left-brained people (engineers, scientists, etc) need to be in control of all the operations in electronic systems, and not let some computer do everything "magically" like most apple user always tell me they love.

A PC is waaaayyyy better than a Mac, and not just because it sells better...

I recently switched from a Mac to an HP with Vista, and yes, it's totally awesome! The one gripe I have is that whole "Cancel or Allow" issue so clearly exaggerated in the latest Apple commercial, ironically... But besides that, not only does it run more efficiently for more of my needs, it also looks cooler while doing it.

And I've never given into the iPod craze (I don't know how I've made it this long). iRiver, Creative, and Sony all make just as good mp3 players with better controls, menu-scrolling, etc and that don't freeze up every once and a while and at better value.

Ipod sucks. I agree with the other guy saying that. Actually it's not the Ipod that sucks but the idea itself: why keep a cell phone with you (everyone has a cellphone, right?!?!?!) and than add the Ipod? Why keep two devices when you can easily get a decent phone that will work as a standard phone and also as an mp3 player? I got 2GB into my phone, and the memory card is a micro SD, it's that small I could care like 200GB in less volume than a regular CD disk. If I would need more space I would buy a 4GB mini SD. It's just as big as a small fingernail, if you never saw one.
This days you can easily buy a phone with MP3 capabilities, sometimes even get it for free with a contract from any carrier. So WHY WOULD ANYONE BOTHER HAVING TWO DEVICES WITH HIM/HER? Useless, stupid and I honestly think it's only because they are blinded by the excellent campaign Apple did. They have good products (not excellent, but very good) and they really know how to build an image for their products.

I know one girl: she goes almost every morning biking through some forest/park close to her house, and she kept telling me at work that she usually drops her cellphone in the favor of her Ipod. So she bikes and listens to music. One day she came to work and she was like: oh, my head hurts. She hit her head really hard when she fall down from her bike. She said she was really lost for a few minutes (because of the impact) and she had to wait like half hour the feel better. Now just imagine if she would hit her head harder ? If she would have need a cellphone just to call HELP? Hard thing to do with an ipod. But on the other side, if you have a cellphone (with mp3s) you can listen to your music, bike, hit your head and CALL FOR HELP. But noo, she loved her ipod to much to change it for a better device.

Ipod sucks. You can do better. Much better. Don't settle for less!

Yes. Add the style of a Motorola RAZR V3i (about $300, give or take) with the music capability of an iPod nano 4GB ($200), and voìla, you have the iPhone.

I couldn't agree more about the ipod's poor sound quality. In fact, it is not the fault of the device. ALL mp3s sound bad, regardless of the player. With the larger capacities of some of the newer players, there's no reason not to use lossless encoding, such as FLAC, SHN or WAV files.

Just say "NO!" to lossy encoding!
