VW build 300MPG car

The title says it all. On the eve of his 70th birthday, Volkswagen’s Chairman Ferdinand Piëch assured reporters during an interview that a super-efficient vehicle capable of achieving mileage rates as impressive as 1L/100km is in development and could be sold at a reasonable price within four years. A simple calculation shows that the vehicle could theoretically travel up to 5,000km on a single 50L tank of fuel, most likely some form of bio-diesel.

its OK ... most people posting here don't follow VW and/or have short memories. VW also has demostrated cars that drive themselves, but when a Lexus parks itself its a new invention.

No they would not.

They have the chance right now to drive 40+ Mpg Vehicles yet choose overwhelmingly to drive Oversized (im sorry, Full Sized) SUVs

I talked to a friend from California who is also an engineer, and he said "if you pushed the price of gas to $10 a gallon, people would go out and buy BIGGER SUVs in defiance!"
I'm sure that doesn't apply to everyone, but I suspect it does for some. How else do you explain the presence of a Hummer in any city's downtown core?

50-L is too much weight for this vehicle. Besides, the fuel would be bad before you use it. That's 1/2 year for some drivers!
This thing only needs a 10-L tank. You'd get 1000kms just like a Jetta/Golf/NB TDI today (625 miles) which means filling up every 3 weeks for the average driver.

Consider this: The average driver (1k miles/month) needs 16 liters of fuel a month, or roughly 1/2 liter per day.
The last time I ate at KFC, we could get that much oil just by wringing out the paper napkins afterwards! :)

This is absoultely possible if VW can build a perfect heat engine or at least 99% efficiency. The two fundamental laws of thermodynamic says it is possible to reuse energy through heat exchange and the Kelvin-Plank statement also dictates that a perfect engine in an adibatic and isentropic process can achieve 100% efficency without the lost of heat, work, or energy, thus obtaining 300+MPG. This is science babe and VW have engineers like me working for them to make this dream realized.
