Seems like Cadillac’s CTS-V is ready to take on BMW’s M5 in high-performance driving. In a recent interview with CARandDRIVER, Lutz said the next-generation Cadillac CTS-V is “flat-out incredible. I’ve never driven anything like that.” He went on to say that the CTS-V “will be at a power level only described as unexpectedly high.”

So what does that mean? Well that means the next Cadillac CTS-V will most likely push 500 horsepower, which is a 100 horsepower increase from the current model. Lutz seems very confident that the next CTS-V will give its rivals some really strong competiton. The car will make its debut in 2008 as a 2009 model.

The current Cadillac CTS-V (pictured) is powered by a 6.0 liter V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower.

I think Cadillac has a flagship crisis. The DTS/STS are both wanting to be the flagship but I think the STS should be.

Cadillac has never compared the STS to the 7 series. Neither has any magazine or comparison.

I agree. Cadillac is in sort of a "flagship" flux right now. Current rumors suggest that Cadillac may drop the STS (for a couple of years), re-design the next DTS on the Zeta or Sigma platform, and design a new flagship...from the ground up.

The new flagship (ULS maybe) will compete with the 7-series & S-class. The next DTS will compete with the 5-series & E-class solidly though larger, price range will determine category. The CTS will compete with 3-series & C-class. A re-designed STS may compete with the CLS-class & 6-series models. Cadillac may not release anything smaller than the CTS in the US, but the new BLS may change that if it gains traction in Europe & UK as a respectable entry-level luxury model.

Not to rain on the CTS parade or anything, I love what they've done with it imo, but isn't Lutz paid to say the things he said? It wasn't like he was gonna say he was dissapointed. But given its competion (M3, RS4, C63) the next CTS-v is gonna have to come to the table with more than just a bigger engine.

This thread has nothing to do with an IS-F. One thing is for sure this new Cadillac will be more luxurious than the IS. People who buy a Cadillac thinks more towards luxury than performance so it can't even be compared. Now if the new CTS-V is sport tuned to go head to head against the IS-F or G35 and 3 series then so be it but that's at a later date. Don't bring Lexus into every thread. We are discussing the CTS-V

this got deboosted alot, as most people do when they dont want to hear the truth, but i would agree, cadillac did come first with the 400hp v8 first in its class, lutz is saying like the last cts-v they are using the best the bmw m5 as a benchmark for the cts-v, the sts-v is obviously the direct competitor to the m5, more so the e63 amg, but the cts-v is more performance and less sports luxury than the stsv

For sure the M3 or RS4 will handle better than CTS-V. They might not be as tame as the M3 as it may be a typical powerful domestic that swings all over the place.

the last one wasnt it had the performance to match its competition but its size prevented it from being as nimble as the m3 (obviously) as close as got cadillac got with its 1st attempt in this class, this one should be a great car..., and what typical american car has a whole lot of power and swings all over the place and maybe you thought this post was about muscle cars from the 70's

The unfortunate thing is that even if the new CTS-V is able enough to run with it's German competitors, they'll have a much harder time convincing the people over seas that they've made an American sedan with German like handling.

These 400hp+ performance sedans make me laugh. When was the last time you were ever passed by one? I can't even think of a time myself. People seem to just buy them for the bragging rights. Sports cars make a lot more sense to me, they are actually fun to drive instead of being all about the engine. You want to play, great! But stay out of "my" left lane otherwise!

Every expensive powerful car depreciates alot. For example, in the U.K as soon as a Maserati Quattroporte is driven out the showroom you've lost £15000 odd on it. But if you can afford to buy such a car, re sale value isn't as important as the driving experience gives memories that will last a life time.

Besides, who wants a used supercar? It could have been beat to hell, raced, etc. Or, even worse, some teenage star could have sat in it without any underwear on...gross.
