First Drive: Jaguar C-XF Concept

Much of the brand's near-term fortune rests on the muscular shoulders of the concept car on these pages, the production version of which (dubbed XF) is coming to market early next year as a 2008 model.

Insiders tell us the C-XF concept represents "70-75 percent of what you'll see in the roadgoing version." The strong rear haunches will stay. The basic proportions are close, although the roofline will have to rise to meet passenger headroom and rollover requirements. Don't expect to see these $10,000-apiece, custom-milled 22-inch wheels on a showroom floor, but optional 20-inchers are realistic. The strong, rectangular grille that recalls the first-gen XJ6 of 1968 will stay, too, as that landmark sedan is a known favorite of design chief Ian Callum...

This looks hot!!! The only mistake Jaguar can do is make it look any different!! The only problem is that they have a poor track record of quality. This car in the first year will make or break it. The reliability will need to be stellar to make a dent in market share. I think that in the long run it will fail but they hopefuly will get it right.

"Ford parts bin?" The only car in their lineup that dips into Ford is the X-Type. Everyone knows the X-Type isn't a real Jag. XJ, XK, on the other hand, have beautiful (if not class-leading) interiors.

Now this is a car that virtually no one finds ugly. IMO it's better looking then the CLS & Aston Martin Rapide...Now why can't BMW's concept be this beautiful?

This concept is nice, but it's way to boxy and its front and rear proportions are too big for me to really look at this as a "4-door coupe" in my opinion.

Actually the car has a sports car nose and tail. You have to see it in person and it's not boxy in any way. The nose is much lower and the car is much rounder than it looks in pictures.

I think this car looks very nice. The lines all fit and it has a very nice side profile....

But this looks like a "cat" compared to the BMW CS concept (not a bad thing :P )
