GM kills Silverado and Sierra hybrid pickups
Even as gasoline prices are going up, GM has decided to kill the slow selling Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid and GMC Sierra hybrid pickups. According to GM, the total production run of both trucks was about 3,000 and there are still a few unsold models of both trucks in dealer inventory.

Neither truck received much attention or promotion and the 2 mpg increase over their gasoline versions wasn’t enough to stimulate buyers into spending more for the hybrid model.

Production of both the Silverado and Sierra hybrid were phased out when GM stopped making the gasoline version back in December. Now GM is working their next hybrid pickups which are due in 18 months and have a two-mode hybrid system that it developed in partnership with DaimlerChrysler and BMW.

Good decision GM! Hybrids will die anyway because of the high cost of replacement batteries.

They should focus more on weight-saving and down-sizing.

These were cool for job site workers because they featured a 20kw generator "plug in" jack. I figured that would make it a bargain when the cost of buying and running those Ingrosol Rand gene-trailors are much more than the extra cost of this feature.

these so-called hybrids were a joke out the box. do they actually have electric motors that move the truck?

so the engines shut down and restart at stops. THAT makes 'em hybrids?

Click and Clack LAUGHED AT THEM when they were first introduced. "all of 2 mpg improvement." so instead of 15 mpg, they got 17?

gm was probably TOO EMBARASSED to promote 'em. naturally they didn't sell. most people didn't even KNOW they existed. not that they woulda been impressed and actually bought one, even if they did.
