California Takes First Steps Toward Aggressively Cutting More Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has released a draft report on proposed early actions to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in California, consistent with the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed on September 27, 2006.

The Act mandates that California’s greenhouse gas emissions be reduced to 1990 levels by 2020, a 25% cut in emissions compared to business as usual (BAU). The Air Resources Board must adopt a comprehensive blueprint for achieving that goal by the end of 2008 and complete the necessary rulemaking to implement that plan by the end of 2011.

Easily done. Get diesels here. 25% reduction in C02 easily. And put the gas guzzler tax on SUVs. This would lead to a very quick C02 reduction.

My opinion is bring diesel of course, but first and foremost, focus on building the high speed train for california, because that drastically reduces CO2 and any other kind of emissions...

What else is new? Politicians just want to be seen to be doing something and it does not matter if the end result is worth anything or not. If you want to reduce C02, plant more trees (using free convict labor of course), or, better still, giant miscanthus whose stems are a wonderful renewable energy source, but don't declare war on the auto industry.

While I think that ARB really is concerned about the environment, it may be noted that only 1/3rd of carbon emissions are from transportation. We're going to have to stop building things too.

Here's a great idea: all of you concerned about CO2 emissions hold your breath for as long as you can. If that turns out to not be enough, stop eating plants (they consume CO2) and have some beef instead. While you sit and digest the steak, call your representative and tell him/her to go spend your tax dollars on some nuclear plants and quit screwing around with coal and natural gas (we need coal and gas for the steaks).
If that still doesn't cut it and you think it's getting to too hot in California, move the hell north (don't stop until you reach Canada).
If for some reason you decide to stay, then please quit telling everyone what they should drive and get your hands out of my wallet.
Come to think about it, the biggest source of emissions in California these days is the hot air coming out of Arnold.
