Saturn Finds That Moving Upscale Sells

In fits and starts, Saturn's revamped lineup of cars and crossovers is beginning to pay off for the long-neglected General Motors division. During an inside look at the second-generation Vue crossover, Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak noted that sales surged 20.5 percent during the first quarter of 2007, a solid performance among domestic manufacturers simply struggling to reverse long-running declines. "And we're poised to have a good second quarter," as well, said Saturn's boss.

Better yet, noted Lajdziak, Saturn is "conquesting" customers who'd normally not consider GM products, a core goal for the division. And those new buyers are, on average, more affluent than existing Saturn shoppers. The average household income (HHI) for those purchasing the Sky roadster is over $100,000, compared to an average $63,000 for all Saturn customers. The HHI stood at $79,000 for the new Aura.

Saturn has done very well for them with the new revamped lineup. The Sky I think is a success in terms of design and the Aura looks great for a Saturn as the lines flow smoothly. They do deserve credit and all is given to GM for funding these new developments.

Saturn hasn't really moved upscale but has brought themselves to this day and age with stylish looks that are no longer boring.

As for best car in the segment, I do not think so. They still plague quality issues, from fit and finish, poor components in certain areas(wipers wear out too quickly, radio having very poor signals, malfuctioning door locks, burnt out window regulators, to a sickening gas guzzling V6 just to name a few). Don't judge a book by it's cover. It may drive/look great, and have awsome road manners for the price you pay for. But more to it than meets the eye. You guys try drivin one for the 1st 2000 miles or 3000 kms. And you'll know what I am talking about.

Are you refering to the older Saturns or the new ones. You can't really make those assumptions for their new lineup considering how long it's been out for. The Sky is an amazing car and from what i've heard and seen no problems to speak of.

Sorry pal, your bullshitting us here. Ive driven new saturns and I have to say that they are very nice. I am an engineer, I can spot details, I know what to look for. Saturn is making really nice cars, especially when price is involved into the equation.
