We use pounds, not Euros in Britain. And the pound -dollar exchange rate is like 1 pound for 2 dollars.

(Bank of England) mainly as it serves as tool against inflation and cost of living index. Similarly the Euro is pegged high as the EU has kept money supply on a tight rein to control the huge deficiets by the European countries who are part of the monetory union. ( Please note that the above is a simplification of the economics in question )

It's overpriced no matter how you slice it. European prices usally include a VAT (value added tax). Canada has an equivalent tax called GST but it's much lower at only 6%. Many European car manufacturers practice what I call "blackmail marketing". If you want a V8 instead of an almost-as-expensive V6 or in-line 6, you'll have to pay through the nose. Another form of blackmail marketing is making a few uninviting colors standard and then charging extra for all other colors. My advice is to punish these guys and not play their game -- there are many choices in the market today.

But the car thing is no contest as far as i am concerned. if you can sell it in NA for $68,000 then you can sell it in the UK for british equivalent of $70,000 which is approx 35,000 GBP. (And the British Government is not Crazy enough to charge 15,000 GBP Tax on a 35,000 GBP Vehicle)

In 2002 i purchased a Brand New Conv M3 Evo (UK) and it cost me just under 49,000 GBP Fully Loaded with the Temp Hard Top.

So if the Coupe is MSRP for over 50,000 GBP i can only dread the Conv Prices.

Its almost as if they are trying to close the Gap with MBs CLK. (MBs are ALWAYS more expensive than BMWs in UK)

Makes sense though, Too many Chavs were driving the Last Gen M3s in the UK so i guess the only conclusion BMW could make was that their vehicles were Too Affordable.

A 335i coupe is a much better buy than an M3. Nicer looking too.

IS350 is better looking, and you can never be sure how well the IS-F will drive... on the other hand, we know the M3 will drive beautifully, and IMO it looks hotter than the already-hot 335i.

Too many of you are trying to use currency conversion to determine pricing, which is never the case. BMW can change the pricing in whatever market they like, regardless of the currency conversion. And they do.

The duty taxes that UK folks have to pay to get cars into their country are outrageous.

Im not knocking the system, but free education, medicine and job security are all cornerstones of a socialist economy. I have freinds that I travled the states with that were from Sweeden and Norway. My friend from Norway made 60,000USD dollars a year working in a pizza shop. But when a slice of pizza costs 12USD in Norway its all relative. %50K+ Quid for the M3 is pretty pricey in dollars after doing the conversion :) .. But i am pretty sure they will sell it here for something like 50k usd or thereabouts.
Cars in the U.K are generally expensive what with the 350z /Rx 8 etc costing nearly the asme in UKP in the UK as they do in dollars in the US

I couldn't agree with you more. This is abosolutely great to see some competition price wise for these two products (RS4 & M3). I've been considering special ordering the M5 Touring but decided to wait for the RS6 Avant (Not released yet) which might be too long of a wait so I'd be attempting a special order of the RS4 Avant (IMO has more of a stealth look to it vs. new M3).

Let's hold that argument until BMW announces pricing in the US. It's never been toe for toe relative to UK.

Either way, a quattro car will never be as fun to drive as a comparably powered RWD car. Unless BMW does something stupid, BMW has one that comparo already.

Well. If it's more than the current M3, $55,000 in the US, then I will not be getting it, nor the 335i. I will turn my attention to the Porsche Cayman S instead. I wasn't expecting the new M3 to be more than $55,000, and was making arrangements, financially, to get it when it's released next year, but now it looks like I'll be putting in an order for the Cayman S.

It will be. M3 coupe was about $54K before... the new M3, which will have 90 more horsepower and more standard features (as well as the usual jack-up in pricing for new cars) should be a bit over $60K, base.

The 335i convertible optioned out costs 55,000USD. I would have assume that there would be at least a 5k premium for the M3 coupe. So, I am going to take a guess of between 59,999 - 62,999.

Porsche 911 S: 85,000 dollars

Audi RS4: 68,000 dollars

BMW M3: PRICELESS

Does anyone know if there is/will be an "M" appearance package available on the regular 3-Series coupe? I would seriously look at one. I like the way the M3 looks to be honest, but we all know I don't need the power...

i have a 2005 bmw m3 pretty much fully loaded and it cost me 60,000. i strongly doubt that the new m3 will cost more than 65,000 fully loaded and the convertible probably about 70,000.
i think at 53,000 a fully loaded 335i is a great price for the performance being just as good as the 2002-2006 m3.
going into the price range of 70,000 i think a few people might want to get a 650i over the m3.

Yeah "Will" there is currently an M package available for the 335i, but it doesn't look as identical to the M3 as the 5 M package does the M5.

This is a pretty premium price for an M3 though, a 645ci coupe cost that much 2 years ago, the M3's price is up about 10 grand. "Chewy" seems to be the only one excited by this news, however expect the sedan to be cheaper.

How does the MITSUBISHI Evolution compare in terms of performance to the M3 and 335i? I know it's as fast especially the 2008 will have 320hp and will do 0-60 in about 4.8s. But i believe that the bmw ride comfort is better.

The price in the U.K is about the same as here (middle east). I paid for our cadillac SRX $54794 here which is so much more than the U.S. My 06' M5 costed me like $116438. Americans are lucky!

We just got the SRX, it's a refresh model I think, but the steering wheel is on the wrong side! And for 70000 dollars people would much rather have an LR Discovery or stretch to a Q7 or X5 or ML.

I would've definitely looked at the M3 convertible, but now that I've thought about it, I don't want another winter car- and therefore need an AWD car. I'm leaning towards the C4S. Thoughts?

BTW, I meant C4S CABRIO. If I was looking at coupes, R8 would be on the list too- but I have a feeling that the R8 Spyder, if there is one, will be too much money.

I was looking at a Carrera S coupe before I leased out my 650i, & ultimately I decided on the 6 because it's a better touring car & I like to take long road trips. Sure the 6 is a slightly slower machine but you get more bang for the buck & a better engine node.

I gotta be honest though I don't really like the Carrera cabrio, it blends in with the other cars on the road to much. Mabye it's just because I'm not really a fan of convertibles to begin with.

Is it me or is the m3 run time the same 0-60 test the 335i in the car and driver comparo test. Which is a little over 4 seconds. Yet the m3 cost way more even if you option the 335i with m package and a whole lotta other goodies.

I drove a bunch of cars yesterday, including the Cayman base and Cayman S. The Cayman base was crap. Very underpowered, and I was not very impressed with the S. I think the Boxter S drives better, better feedback, better all around car than the Cayman. The Cayman S is more competing with the M-Coupe anyway.

Then I walked across the stree to the BMW dealership and hopped in a 335. Very impressed. That 3 series chassis in coupe form is just sweeeet and I can't even imagine how nice it's going to be with that V8 in it.

The salesman said they will not be adding a premium over MSRP for it.

The M3 is clearly setting the baseline yet again! If you want something better, you have to spend 40 grand more and get a Carrera S RWD.

If this car is priced over $65k in the US, BMW will have made a HUGE marketing mistake. It's a great looking car and without doubt fast and a handler to boot, but so is the 335i coupe andone would lose maybe .5 sec to 60. I guess they just decided tomake a track car to run up against the Cayman S! Oops! Wasn't the M Coupe supposed to do that? Maybe BMW thinks this car will lure away potential 911 buyers? I don't think they will succeed.
