Review: Audi Q7 4.2 FSI

 Review: Audi Q7 4.2 FSI
Audi was one of the first carmakers to realize the potential benefit of equipping both its road-going and competition cars with an AWD system. Taking advantage of rule changes during the early ‘80s that allowed AWD cars to compete in the World Rally Competition, Audi entered its first model equipped with the sophisticated drivetrain, winning its debut race and maintaining this lead for the next two years. Prominent wins and the proven reliability of its quattro technology have made Audi a leader in AWD ever since the introduction of the first quattro model back in 1980. And now, with close to 30 years of AWD experience under its belt, Audi has released its take on the highly popular SUV.

Considering its heritage, it’s strange that Audi was so late to the table in delivering a full-size SUV model. For years it released jacked up versions of its A4 and A6 Avant wagons equipped with off-road tires and protective side-cladding as an alternative to poplar soft-roader models from Japanese and American carmakers. Even after German rivals BMW and Mercedes Benz released their own off-road models with the X5 and M-Class line of cars, Audi was still years away from adding an SUV to its lineup.

Not bad Audi Q7 4.2L NA 350hp 400lb-ft and 0-60 7 secs.

Its amazing how quickly Technology Advances, In 2001 the 4.4i BMW Engine in the X5 developed 289hp and in 2004 the 4.8is developed 345hp

What, you'd rather it look like a bathtub like the SC430?

To add- the reflectors don't bother me. In dark colors especially, this is pretty sexy for an SUV. If there's one thing Audi really excells in, it's design, and I don't feel that this car is any exception.

I re-read your comment. This is all you said about the Q7:

"I just can't get over those 12 ft. long reflectors on the back of that thing."

Do you simply expect me to "infer" from that statement that you love everything about the Q except the reflectors? I don't think so.

Too bad it's considered a dud.

No low range gearing, bad acceleration due to heavy curb weight, bad fuel economy, and not as roomy as it should be in rear considering it's a 7 seater.

David999

Did you consider that statement carefully before posting it ??

The 0-60 time of 7 secs is Equal to that of the Range Rover Sport SUPERCHARGED and the Previous Gen X5 4.8is from BMW, as far as I am concerned that is no Dud.(Especially from a 7 seater)

A dud? I live in NY and I see several of them each day when I drive in the suburbs - so I'm not sure where you live David999. Personally the only SUV I'm a fan of is the Range Rover (although admittedly its not the best looking). From everything I've read though - the Q7 does well for what the market demands.

I agree, I live in London, and I am yet to see a single UK GL. I see loads of Q7s, and the only GL I saw was from Russia.
The Q7 is currently ruling the market here, very popular car.

I see plenty of Chrysler SUVs in the suburbs as well.

I, believe it or not, would rather Quality & Reliability drive a Lexus vehicle. The Audis Q7 is not a well car due to it's extreme ugliness and tigth suspension. Any Lexus vehicle would Quality & Reliability be a better choice.
Lexus's lineup is best on markets. See me explain:
LS430: Best car on road
GS300: Very nice. Good value. Quality & Reliability
ES300: Comfortable. Nice. Pretty.
IS240: Sporty, great handling. Quality & Reliability
SC400: Beautifully crafted 2 door coupe.
LX470: Better offroad than a Mazda Miata. Saves more gas than LandRover3.
GX470: Tall and safe. Quality & Reliability
The new RX330: Sure to be a best seller, but only time will tell

And that is why Lexus best lineup in markets.

I pledge my love to Lexus. ---Quality & Reliability

The all-powerful LEXUS GODS have brought us these cars that are unbelievably sexybeautifulluxurious, and we have given them HIGH SALES in return.

IS. best in class. so sexybeautifulluxurious. it also has 6 more horsepower than the ugly unreliable 3 series coupe!!!! ahahahahahahhaha!!!!!!!!

ES. best in class. its so good it has no competitors!!!! it scared them all away with its sexyluxuryreliability!!!!!!!

GS. best in class. so unbelievablybeautifulreliable. it is so much better-looking than any stupid dumb british sedan like an aston martin rapid!

LS. best car ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! s-class is so cheap and unreliable

RX. best in class. x5, cayenne, range rover, ml- none of them are nearly as LUXURIOUS and RELIABLE and HIGH-QUALITY as the god-like RX.

GX. best in class. no explanation needed

LX. best suv ever. what's a range rover, again?

SC. what a beauty! its sleek, trim lines put the sl, 6 series, and jag xk to shame!!!!
