Audi A5 variants on the way: Sportback due in 2009 and convertible in 2008Q
Audi is set to double its model count by 2015. “We have 22 vehicles in the lineup already and the other 18 in our heads,” said Michael Dick, Audi’s Product Development Chief. So while Audi is still planning the Q5 SUV, A7 four-door coupe and the A1 compact car, it is ready to milk the A5 line for all it’s worth.

Rupert Stadler, Audi’s CEO, is spilling the beans in Germany and AutoBild is reporting that Audi plans to begin revealing its ‘5' breed starting 2008 with a A5 Convertible due in November of 2008 and the A5 Sportback (AutoBild rendering shown above) due in April of 2009.

Both will be followed by the Q5 SUV, along with an R5 and RS5. We are crossing our fingers for all ‘5' models to come to the US but that is highly-unlikely.

That's actually a really good photoshop. Must've taken some skill!

However, do we really need an A4 Avant, A5 Sportback AND A6 Avant? I hope the car shown above will end up as the A4 Avant, and not a "Sportback" model...

I do too (LOL). But, judging by the A5 coupe (A5 Cabrio is A4 Cabrio's replacement), the A5 Cabrio will be hot... especially the replacement for my car, S5 Cabriolet. It will look devilishly good in red.

And i thought A5 is a Strict 2 door coupe. It's variants will be only S and RS.

Audi that's too many models.
It's even Confusing.

BTW that's a good photoshop.Looks so damn good.

Yes, LEXUS's simple, Reliable, High-Quality lineup which is completely wagon-free is so much better!!!!!! that is a hot photoshop- but its rear window wiper is stolen from the LEXUS RX!!!!

Mmm... Lexus...

There most likely won't be an A5 sportback.

This information can also be found on the Auto Bild website. The article (in German) mentions that Audi will build the A5 stationwagon/sportback and is Audi's response to the Benz CLS 4 door coupe segment. They claim by building the A5 wagon, they will be taking the 4 door coupe concept a step further. I think the A5 wagon is boring, the coupe and future cabrio are cool.

why have it? A4 is there so why consider making a A5 sportback... just weird.

I can only hope that it will look less like a stationwagon (than the photoshop above) and more like a coupe. We need a car that is roomier than an A5 (4 adults to the movies? forget it), not as sensible as an A4 (I love mine but the 2009 edition looks like a Civic to me), not as dorky as a variant (good family man car, but what if you're past the 2.1 rugrats?), sportier than an A6 (drove one yesterday and though a fine straight-line cruiser it's got too much derriere for any fast-footing), and yet more luxurious than a VW-CC, does not begin to compete with the CLS. Personally, I cannot _wait_ for the A5 Sportback to arrive - and keep my fingers crossed that they'll finally drop a diesel into a sexy car!
