Chrysler considers reviving the Barracuda

Despite the rising cost of fuel, genuine muscle cars are as popular as ever it seems with new versions of the Ford Mustang, Chrysler 300C SRT-8, Pontiac GTO and Chevy Camaro all scheduled to hit showrooms in the not too distant future. Now, The Detroit News is reporting that Chrysler could be considering creating a new Barracuda based on its upcoming Dodge Challenger, with none other than hot-rod legend Chip Foose dropping the suggestion at the recent New York Auto Show.

As most of you would know, the original Cuda was sold as a Plymouth but since that brand has gone the way of the Dodo, any new model would be sold wearing Chrysler badges. Some of the features of the original model would carry over such as the signature ’72 six-aperture grille, shaker hood and low driving lights.

The Cuda was a dream car for me in my younger days. The only thing I did not like was that the "six-pack" set of carburators was not an "8-pack". I wanted the number of carbs to match the number of cylinders. Of course, a modern Cuda would have fuel injection.

Detroit needs to know that these cars will sell like hot cakes for 2-3 years at max and then it will fade hard. Don't get me wrong, I love this new muscle car era we are experiencing right now, and although i am a 22 year old that appreciates the old styles such as the new mustang, they are for the most part appealing to an ageing baby boomer generation that will eventually start buying more luxury cars in a few years. What this leaves the majority of my generation with is a loyalty to the AWD rice rockets like Subaru and EVO.

bmwbuddy you are so gay. 2-3 years? wtf? they are not just appealing to aging baby boomers. these cars have so much style to them its unbelievable. not only will it give older people a sense of being young again, but for the people who are young now.. will be the cars that they can say they loved back when they were young. in a few years everything is going to be so technilogically advanced that even the most basic car will be like bill gates house. these cars are simple, respectable and everything anyone would need. no one NEEDS the luxury, it may be nice to have it but really, who wants to pay the price for it. i could buy a mercedes or a bmw or lexus any day i wanted to. but they are all just to up there for my taste. most people hate the technology. i'll be driving a cuda, or charger or challenger or any muscle car that comes out.

Actually, if they did the same style cylinder deactivation on a v6 as GM does, then the engine would go from 6 to 3.
And I don't know where you're getting your info, butt he 300C and charger are still selling pretty well.

Of course there will be low demand for the 300C near Brampton...I wouldn't be surprised if there was low demand all over Canada for this car. I lived in Mississauga for a while; gas was roughly $3.70USD per gallon.

It's no wonder the Acura Integra, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and Pontiac Sunfire, make up what appears to be the majority of the cars on the road up there.
