The redesigned CL550 is another in a long line of legendary Mercedes-Benz coupes.

The unique pillarless design of the CL-Class may be familiar, but that's where the comparisons end. The 2007 CL550 adds PRE-SAFE® technology, and a 20-gigabyte hard drive for faster processing. The new stance casts a silhouette that's poised to launch forward — and the emboldened look is accented with an aggressive front air dam, aerodynamically chiseled rear bumper, a classic front grille, and staggered-width 18" 9-spoke alloy wheels.

Full of stunning detailing.

you could spend hours admiring everthing from the clock to the door-locking mechanism bathed in chrome.

She's a beauty alright! The rear windshield however is a bit of a design letdown other than it's pretty flawless. I also love the chrome accents around the cabin, especially the chrome seat handles, very nice touch.

I went to the Benz dealer to look at this car about a month ago & parked next to it in my 650i, got out, & observed. What did I notice? They look alot alike...seperated at birth almost.

I do have one major issue with this car, the lack of a center shifter (in fact you can't shift through the gears at all on this car) & the lack of a distinct cabin seperate from that of the S-Class.

aeyjay is correct. It looks like an Acura CL. Nice design.

Yeah I agree Acura CL, I guarantee if Acura brings back the CL, the new generation with a hot different design and more power, it will sell a hell lot more than this benz.

Acura CLs were such nice cars, they made a big mistake by discontinuing them. They could have enormous sales with that car. Simply one of the greatest coupe in its class.

Acura CL's were for the mass. This is far more exclusive than an Acura.

Hot car, but where did you drive it 001? That traffic looks as horrible as it does here on the FDR in Manhattan! LOL....can't imagine you got it up to a fun speed.... I like it though, has grown on me since I did not like it at first.

L.A. has some of the worst traffic in the U.S. 001, just like so many other people on this site, lives around there.

Enlarge the image of the wood-trimmed steering wheel at the top right corner and you'll see why one should only order a fully leather-covered steering wheel. You can see the glare of the shiny wood -- I'm surprised that the safety nazis have not outlawed shiny wood on steering wheels.

Am I the only one thinking this is a bloated and superfluous Toyota Solara? At the benz dealership recently I was saddend to say that in person it was no better... Just an opinion but I suppose benz is lucky that there isn't quite much competition in this market segment. If only they could wrap the current aesthetics and advancements into the previous AMG body... I'd rather have a 3rd refresh... (Just an opinion...)

Beautiful car, beautiful design, quiet, luxurious, & comfortable. I test drove one of these and it is superb! the design takes some time to get used to but the luxurious interior draws you in. I think it looks more expensive than it really is. I has the ultra luxury prestige about it but has come short in a few categories. It's the ultimate 2 door cruiser in absolute comfort and luxury.

I want one now but I got the S550 and just waiting for the LS460 to arrive. I can't wait. Perhaps in a couple years I will get rid of the LS and get a CL or maybe get rid of the S and keep the LS. It would probably look better if I had the CL and the S parked side by side.

Confusing. Before, I remember you saying you were looking at an IS350 or something; now, you're saying you have an S550 and an LS460? WTF? Why don't you write an article on them, then?

Very nice looking indeed, can't wait for the new E550 to show up, I hope they incorporate some of the styling cues from the S and CL class into the new E.

You are not the only one, I and most of my friends in UK & Europe & Dubai all think it is a Letdown.

The interior is much better than the Previous Gen CL, that much i will admit, however the exterior is all wrong and many will attest to that.

Also why would you have a Rectangular Rear Sunshade in a vehicle with almost Semicircular Rear WindScreen ?
Would it have been that much more expensive to make a Sunscreen that fits the Rear Screen ??

I95, have you actually seen it in person? In Mercedes's press pictures, it looks horrible, but in person, the difference is gargantuan. When I first saw it, I didn't recognize it, it was so beautiful.

Awesome car. They should just go right ahead and replace the analog dials in the instrument panel with one large OLED screen.

Love the ID3 tags inside the speedometer!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The old CL didn't have quite the presence that it should have had... this car does away with any images of the feminine W140. The AMG package is especially nice- and this is one of very few cars where the interior looks sumptuous in grey. With all those extra pieces of wood trim and with chrome and leather covering every surface, it makes the S's interior look like a cheaper version!
