Diesel will take over the U.S.A.?

Diesel reminds me of the whining cavemen on the Geico Car insurance commercial for some odd reason.

I would buy a diesel....

diesel stench is a known carcinogen...why the hell would anyone buy one?

sorry, unless they take the stench out of diesel, I'll never EVER buy one. I was hoping with the ultra low sulfur fuel is would help....but it didn't make one bit of difference...either that or everyone is running "OFFROAD DIESEL"

leave this crap for the Ford F250's and move on!

diesels don't smell anymore, and particulate traps stop smoke and particles coming out the exhaust. Modern ones are greatly improved over something in a Ford truck. V8 diesels now sound more like V8s than diesels, and some, like the A8 4.2 tdi, are amazing engines, and quicker than the petrol alternative.

Obviously Bagwell you haven't been to Europe, or at least recently. Diesel smell has been almost eradicated from the passenger car. You are thinking of American big diesel trucks and rigs... not in the same catergory man!

For me there is only one negative to a diesel auto:
If I step on some spilled fuel at a pump and get in my car, it smells to high heaven. I guess I could bring large sheets of construction paper to stand on while I'm filling up.

correct, I'm basing everything on US (Houston, TX)where it seems like every other vehicle is a diesel pickup truck (not counting 18 wheelers).

Maybe once a week I'll see a Jetta TDI and I notice the bumper is black from the soot/exhaust.

E320 BlueTec (with the "urine") looks promising, tho still not CA emissions legal!!!!

altho on second thought ---- hell if they can make a Hybrid diesel that gets 100mpg, I'll take two!

No, the EU taxes fuel on Co2 content. But not in Britain, where diesel is about 3-4 pence more.

The majority of British people have adopted American values and have become fat, stupid and complain far too much.

Diesels are quicker because they have Turbo's.
If you put a turbo on a gasoline engine with the same cc it would drive circles around the diesel.

I live in europe and we'll talk again when all those "tuner-boys" think they can put a blow-off-valve on their seat leon TDI, which leaves you with a blow of dirt coming out on your frontwindow at the trafficlights!!

Basicly as long as people still have relative lower prices for fossil fuels and will continue driving those Support Usama Vehicles (SUV)for one passenger only and above all the bragging rights fo fellow associates on their new toi, I see no real headway for diesels until something changes like very high prices for fossil fuels.
