2008 Corvette: Finally, a REAL quality upgrade to the Corvette?

I dont have any issue with the steering wheel, I think its great to see GM finally making a move towards improving interior quality, I noticed in the pics the detail of the stitching on the leather which is something normally left to the italian makers. I think its a great improvement for the interior of this american icon. Good one GM.

Anybody here going to tell me all that dashboard leather is standard? I don't think so. The interior has been the Corvettes major set back since the 80's.

GM needs to stop borrowing so many parts for the Vette from Chevy's cheaper models; last gen was unquestionably the worse though with the interior to match a Sunfire & Cavalier.

Standard or not the leather dash has definately improved the interior looks. It was a shame for so many years it took GM to figure out if the put a decent quality interior in their cars, they could probably sell better. Hell I know I have bitched about it for years!! Even as a kid I would tap and pound on the dash in a dealership. One time even broke off a piece and took it to the salesman and said, this is not built good, my dad cried from laughing so hard. From that day forward and still to this day I do my tap test of the interior, feeling plastics and such. GM has made a lot of improvements with hopefully more to come. I may not buy a GM since nothing in their performance portfolio yet intrests me (maybe the RWD G8 Pontiac)but I don't wanna see them fail...

Sounds like you cry babies want wood steering wheels and a suede interior. Can we say champagne taste on a beer budget? The Corvette is a steal for its price/performance ratio. GM has to make sacrifices in a few areas. I'm sorry but you can keep your european interiors while I walk buy you on the track. My interior is faster then your interior...

is it so much to ask for a Honda/Toyota Quality interior?

Not the Rubbermaid option that we get on all GM products.

It still looks like a 4 year old stuck the centre console together. the sat nav doesn't even fit properly!

I wonder what is better in the interior. Maybe it is a better lether or a better sound system. This interior is maybe better than the old one, but still milles and milles behind audi. Do they have already took a seat in an audi? Because the improvements would be much more drastic.

Where is the real quality upgrade? The interior is entirely wrapped with leather. SO WHAT. Yes, it probably feels good and that would only mean "Quality" if we were all blind but look at what we have to look at...

The air conditioner (AC) looks kind off "sad" haha.

Wow, there are way to many women on this board if all the talk is about the new interior!!! This car isn't about interior (which the price reflexs), its about whats under the hood and how it handles. Name another car that is as good or even better then the Corvette and still costs the same. With that said, the biggest news coming from the improved C6 is the hp upgrade. The new smaller LS3 produces 30 more horses then the old and also weighs less, which will give the Corvette even better handling up front.

I agree, this car in base C6 form will outrun anything south of 100K and handle just as well, all for about 50K nicely optioned and you guys are complaining about the interior? People have forgotten the meaning of a true sports car, damn the interior. I could buy this car for 50K, put 7K into interior upgrades and be laughing all the way to the bank as you see my tail lights.......

Who cares if it can run good, if the shift knob brakes off from being a crummy piece of plastic (brother's friend's C6 Vette was an interior falling apart nightmare)you won't experience the engine. Also annoying as hell to have the plastic in the dash buzz louder than the motor when you floor it. So much for hearing that V8....the rattling plastic is drowning it out....that is why there is a concern....I don't care what materials...leather cloth whatever. I am speaking of the interior to be built better than the Chevy Aveo. Thats all I ask.

Still a piece of crap. Still using LEAF SPRINGS in the REAR. Still 70 hp for liter.

There's only two decent amercan cars made: the Ford GT, Saleen S7. Other than that, there's a German or Japanese car that is a better bang for the buck.

Like what smart ass?? The Supra? Oh yeah..they don't make that anymore. The reason the use leaf springs is because it gives the car a lower center of gravity (due to all the components being closer the the axle line). Find me ANY real sports car that is a fast daily driver and has a 100K-10year warranty and then will talk.

not even close the corvettes interior has always been pretty poor, but you read any mag, and the corvette (zo6 or not) are compared to cars that cost anywhere 2-5 times more than the corvette, so if the corvette is that much cheaper than what people consider its competition, of course the interior is going to fall short in materials quality. there isnt another car that offers more bang for the buck than buck the corvette at any price point and ill give gm that

I really like this interior. A lot. Its much better than the current vette. Good job GM. For $45,000, this is the best performance car for the money. No questions asked.

I drove a Corvette at GM’s "The Drive." There’s a small track where, depending on the "co-pilot" from GM, you’re urged to push the car to its limits. Yeah, the inside is crappy... and I’ll even go as far to say that even, cheaper, recent Buick efforts outshine the inside in perceived quality; but that’s not what this car is about.

This car isn’t "fun to drive" in a BMW kind of way, where it makes a practical daily driver too. This is fun to drive in a white knuckle, face-rippling, bring a clean pair of underpants, exotic car kind of way. In the seat, you feel as though you’re practically sitting on the ground. The cornering traction isn’t good, it’s insane; and there’s so much low-end torque that flooring it ignites a survival instinct that sends every cell in your body into red alert... the feeling of merely being alive when you’re done is exhilarating. If you’re sitting in this car staring at a crappy interior, you haven’t even started the engine yet. If you’re sitting on this site complaining about it, you haven’t driven it.

Apparently we have more Martha Stewart wannabees than drivers! Yeah the interior has shortcomings...get over it! Jesus you people whine and complain like a bunch of you know what! Why don't you talk about what the car does right...comments like "Interior still looks like crap! Exterior is tight."...does little to convince the rest of us you have anything meaningful to say....And for those of you who bitch about not buying a Corvette because of the interior then why don't you show us what you bought instead...and give us a good laugh!

it was about time they did SOMETHING with the GM parts bin interior of the corvette.

my dad has had vettes for years and they are brutally fun to drive. but certainly not every day with their crappy interiors.

i'm just waiting for a lexus fan to jump in and say something like "the LS600hl is faster and more fuel efficient so i'd buy that over a vette."

Dont forget about the 120,000 price tag if lexus is involved in anything.

To CommonSense and other Vette lovers who don't know how to drive a sports car properly, stop reading skidpad numbers and go drive this a corvette. And drive it hard. And drive it hard on a bumpy road when on the verge of oversteer.

Let's just say you might be alive to write about it, because driving a vette hard through a bumpy bend is a recipe for disaster.

Unless you have a glass smooth road to drive this car hard on, those skidpad numbers mean jack shit.

I'm sorry that we Americans cannot produce a car we can be proud of. I'd much rather put my dollars back into my own economy. But if I buy a corvette, I'm rewarding mediocrity. And that's what the Corvette is: Mediocre.

PS: this is the same problem the Cobra SVT 500 hp Mustang has with its cheap interior and dope brained solid rear axle.

A Corvette is a sports car with training wheels.

The interior is a modest imporvement though.
