Subtle correction neccessary here. "The RS6 'WILL' be a serious challenger for the BMW M5". IMO, with good drivers of the same caliber in both cars, the M5 will get an excellent view of the RS6's rear lights on the straight and more so on a track with wicked corners.

The RS6 is always more stealthy than the M5. Don't get me wrong, they are both excellent cars.

Nothing will "DESTROY" the M5. The RS6 will be a contender, and some will prefer it over the M5.

For me, unless Audi can provide a manual gearbox and enough rear torque to wag the tail, the M5 will be more fun to drive and, thus, the better car.

Seeing that the current S6 with 80 less HP and 400lbs heavier than the M5 is only 0.1 sec slower than the M5 and pulls more Gs..the RS6 will hurt the M5 very, very much so I'm afraid.
And for the Manual tranny, look at what the manual did to the M5...not a very good car.
