Spy Shots: Audi R10 makes round at Nurburgring
When the Audi R8 made its debut with a 4.2 FSI V8 engine, everyone expected a V10 variant to follow and since the R8 shares most of it’s components with the Volkswagen owned Lamborghini Gallardo, it was only a matter of time before that became a reality. Well rest assured that the Audi R10 is under development and spies have recently caught the R10 make rounds around the Nurburgring track in Germany for some high-speed testing.

The Audi R10 is expected to have a FSI V10 engine that will produce at least an extra 80 horsepower over the V8 model hitting the 500 horsepower mark. CAR Magazine says that the car pictured above differs from the R8 since the side sills are more heavily sculpted and the side scoops are reprofiled, giving the car more room to breathe with its powerful engine.

It is expected to make its debut within the next 18 months.

Wouldn't this position the vehicle head-to-head with the Gallardo?

Can't you even admit to how beautiful this car is, instead of complaining about its in-house competition? Sure it will, and it will probably beat the Gallardo! Your point?

I have no doubt that it will be a very capable car; although I don't think that the R10 moniker is wise for the V10 version of the R8. Audi dubbed this mid engined monster after the famous and heroic R8 LMP car. The car run by Audi Sport showed the world its tailights in endurance racing with it's innovative Direct Injected turbo V8. The production R8 can show traces to the "8" in correspondance to the eight cylinder engine found in the LMP car (albeit minus the two slugs bolted on).

Ok bare with me...

If this model is the maybe-to-be-named, R10; what does that say to the correlation to the current R10 LMP? I am not blind or ignorant to see that "10" means ten cylinders in a "vee" configuration. But... it gets you thinking. If it weren't for Audi's stricit doctrine of weight saving, (i.e. Audi's very venerable use of an all-aluminum space frame) could the bi-turbo V12 TDI be an option for the R8/Gallardo platform? C'mon four ringed enthusiasts, you would have to admit that having that twelve cylinder torque monster behind you would make for a very intriguing car. I'll safely bet that in lieu of the possibility of a "S" or "RS" model the V10 will smartly change the performance of the car and take over the halo model role. But there in lies another question, "Would the range topping RS model maybe come to the table with the V12 TDI?" Vorsprung durch Technik for a reason; right?

That's what I think: R8 V10. People have said "R10" in the past, and I corrected them then, but didn't take the time to now... if they ever make an R10, it would be an ultra-super-high-performance sports car, upwards of $150K. But I doubt it. With the R8 being so hot and so good to drive, and already super-exclusive, the R10 wouldn't find any takers.

Yes but this 1 used some parts from the godly toyota/lexus so it doesnt burn.

Ahh, Shit!

I ordered the R8 in January, due for delivery in September.
My only regret at the time was that the R8 was not a V10. At the time of signing I asked the Audi sales rep if there were plans of making a V10 version. "Nope, at least not for quite a few years. If they did it would cost at least $100k more (AUD$)"

Can anybody confirm the release of the V10 ? Is it legit or just a testing exercise. I would rather wait 18months and have the perfect car, instead of buying the V8 version and being overtaken shortly afterwards.
