Next generation Ford Fiesta coming to the US

Next generation Ford Fiesta coming to the US
According to Ford officials, the next generation Ford Fiesta is set to go on sale in the United States in 2009 and will remain mostly unchanged from the European model. MotorTrend is reporting that plans to bring the Fiesta over to the US were confirmed back in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Martin Smith, Ford’s design chief of Europe said that the new Fiesta, based on the Mazda2, will look almost exactly the same in the US as it will in Europe with minor engineering changes that will be necessary to federalize it in the US.

Just one questions Mulally; Why not bring the Ford Mondeo here first? Who cares about the Fiesta? We’re happy with the Focus!

Ford: Wouldn't this car be perfect for a hybrid powertrain? I could see 70mpg if you do it right.

Ford 'doing it right' LOL

Funny.

Ford already tried the Mondeo in the form of the Mercury Mystique. I was in a Mercury showroom when I overheard the Sales Manager dressing down his sales staff and accusing them of having the wrong attitude when they could not sell this overpriced vehicle. As for Focus, I cannot understand why Ford did not replace the North American model with the newer European version.

Yes. It's the new Aztek of 2007... maybe not to that degree, but Ford really screwed up. They had such a great platform, just SITTING there, and instead they uglified the currrent eight-year-old platform. Wonder why they're going under?

It's about time. How could Ford not bring the Fiesta and revised European Focus to North America for all of these years? The new Mondeo would be brilliant too. They should give the Mazda 6 (Fusion/Milan) derivative to either Ford or Mercury and the Mondeo to the other to create some uniqueness in the brand. They also have a sharp smaller minivan that they could have forged a new market with. But no, Mazda and Hyundai have gone and done that.

That's a really good car.
Best 7 seater MPV out there.
