Fourtitude Brings Us Up To Date On The New RS6

With development mules seen testing in various locales, including the spy photographer infested Nurburgring, it?s safe to assume Audi is nearing the debut of the next-generation RS 6. Plenty of rumors surround this new RS 6. In an effort to catalog what has been said or is known, below is a collection of rumor, conjecture and commentary that may help paint a better picture of the super sedan and Avant planned for sale by Audi in the not-so-distant future.

Audi RS 6 test mules first started appearing weeks ago. Thus far, two versions have been seen. Blue and black wide-arched examples were caught cold-weather testing, sporting muscular wheel bulges much like the current RS 4, mated to stock S6 bumpers.

If this Audi RS6 truly has 600 under the hood, than it going to smoke the M5, E63 and the rumor new Cadillac CTS-V with 500 hp.

AWD = more weight and more drivetrain loss. It needs 600hp to compete with its competitors, anything less then it would be getting smoked.

The old RS6 only had 50 more horsepower than the previous M5, and it was faster; it had 20hp LESS than the E55, and was only about 0.2 seconds slower. I think this will give it more of an advantage than you're letting on.

You're talking about the drag strip. Awd helps with a better 60ft and thus reducing it's ET. Put all three of those cars on the Autobahn and it's a completely different story.

And ofcourse the RS6 will be faster than the M5, thats what its meant to be. It would be embarassing if it isnt. Audi benchmarked the M5 so its obvious they are going to come up with a better car. Then the next generation M5 will be better then the next RS6 and so on. Its just like the M3-RS4 arguement.

Mercedes will stay on the sidelines, eventually coming out with a 2,700hp E-Class AMG.

Seeing that the current S6 is only 0.1 sec slower than the M5 at the track, the RS6 should do quite well!
The S6 even pulls more Gs than the M5

I partially agree with that about the M5. You can't turn the DSC completely off with the manual M5. why they did that, I have no idea. A chip upgrade will fix that, and that's my only beef with the new M5.

And... The RS4 is NOT more fun than the M3, I have driven the RS4 and I own the current M3 and have put 50k miles on it and she gets oversteer EVERY DAY from me on the way to and from the office.

The RS4 has more thrust and slightly more crisp steering response initially, but I get more road feedback from the M3 as I reach the limits on steering grip. The RS was not nearly as nimble, and that heavy front end gave more understeer than the M3 does. Worst of all, I could not get the RS4 to oversteer without "flicking" it by upsetting the susppension or using the friggin e-brake.
