REVIEW: So what's new ? BMW 328 Convertible beats Audi, Saab, VW and Volvo
The latest issue of Car and Driver magazine selected the 328i convertible as the winner of a comparison test, beating the Audi A4, Saab 9-3, Volkswagen Eos and Volvo C70. Those are all very good cars, and the win for BMW means a very solid endorsement.

I was actually quite suprised that my summer car, the SAAB 9-3 2.0t, got in third, considering it's the oldest model there. I do agree with their rankings.

Yes, I wasn't surprised by this result- one-two finish for BMW and Audi was completely expected. However, like mstangpny, I didn't expect the Saab to beat out the Volvo or VW. Mostly the Volvo, though, because it's gotten favorable reviews for its style, its liesure and its attractive hardtop design.

Why is the VW there? It's not the same class...why no CLK?

CLK is too overpriced compared to these cars.

The BMW is the best choice out of the group of cars compared. For the first time, I agree with the BMW's placement.

There was no Lexus in the article, Rupert.

Too bad for you, there was an Audi...

...and it lost...

it's really a beautiful, fun to drive car.
no surprise that it leads the pack.

i've said this before, but you'd need to spend $100,000 plus on as SL to get a better combination of style and performance in a convertible.

The 328 cab was 39,000. The A4 was 38,000, the other two in the 32,000 range. Substantial difference.

Both the A4 and 3er were in the mid-to-high $40Ks, with the Saab in the low-mid $40Ks and the VW somewhere just under that (it had the V6, while the others had fours).

Ya, I screwed that up, 49 for BMW, 48 for Audi and low 40s for the others. Still big differnce.

No excuses as to why the Audi & VW lost "Chewy?" I recall you saying you'd take an Eos over a 335i cab!

The Eos was the quickest one. Much cheaper. The Audi cab is what, 5 years old or something. And with all of them weighing in at 3,800+ pounds, doubt there is hella excellent handling here. And the convertibles are used for cruising.

Audi has some of the stiffest pricing in the business. I'm lucky I have a good dealer- most are sucky to work out pricing with.

SAAB is basically giving away their cars....I got mine that was sitting on the lot in Missouri for 9 months at a dealer that was going out of business. I got a fantastic deal. I paid, with trade, less than half of the car's MSRP. It was new, too.

When has C&D not chosen BMW in a comparo? For the savings and style, I'd go for the Volvo.

The 3 series convertible is very attractive in real. Looks way better than pictures. BMW does it again!

To amazinbimmer

Audis are expensive; what are you talking about? Audi actually wins a lot of awards because of their quality; they actually are very high in quality, more so than BMW’s which leads me to my next point. The guys Audi is cheap according to you; but it is higher in quality. Also, an Audi A4 costs 40,100 and the BMW 328 costs 43,000 not too much of a difference to me.

It is also funny how BMW obviously is worried about competition; they constantly upgrade their models which actually sends a message of insecurity. I am worried that the company will make piss-poor decisions in the future; the number one choices to go are still Volvo, Saab and Audi. All of these cars actually last more than four years LOL!
